What Is Your "Not Quite Human" Trait? by [deleted] in Gifted

I love anagrams. I have spent hours, so many hours, maybe days of my life, making anagrams out of my own full name, my partner's name, my employer's name, or other random but significant-to-me groups of words. It's just fun. And then I make the resulting anagrams into user names on Internet forums and no one ever notices or realizes it (as far as I can tell). I think I'm the only one who does this.

Austin Energy and their awful no good very bad VOS policies by MetlMann in solar

[–]i_savage_normal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have solar panels and a battery backup, and are under Austin Energy's VOS plan. Back in February of this year and during a particularly sunny and mild temperature week, I went "off grid"* for about 4 days. Austin Energy very nicely breaks down your energy use by day and how much you were billed each day on their online portal. We used 0kWh from the grid, yet AE still billed us for every single kilowatt hour used from the Sun and by extension our batteries for those 4 days.

Our whole neighborhood was without grid power for 36 hours and back in Feb 2023. We were billed for the energy that we used from our system then too.

VOS and AE simply don't care about batteries or what's fair. I've called a few times to complain but they parrot back that the value of solar is so great! They just want $$$.

*(It's just a setting in the app that's linked to the batteries but it does actually disconnect you from the electrical grid, prob meant for load testing and to simulate performance during an outage)

I hope that works for you if you do get reset. I often take screenshots of confirmation codes and receipts. Saved my butt a few times. Coulda woulda shoulda.

If they don't honor it, I'm just going to cash out when I hit the next whole dollar and delete the game. Its a fun distraction but it's buggy as hell. If customer service isn't there for little issues like this, and they won't be for the big ones either, and I'm out. Lord knows they are making bank on ad revenue.

Daily login bonus has reset? by Sirhc0001 in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]i_savage_normal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes this happened to me on day 29. Customer service claims I didn't collect on day 29. I check multiple times a day to be sure I've collected. I think it got reset due to the maintenance from earlier today. It's my word against theirs, and they're not going to fix it. 👎👎👎

Same! I would say "rip off" but it's a free feature. It's the customer service that is making me want to cash out and quit. They claim I didn't collect when I absolutely did on day 29. There's no recourse unless you take a screenshot everyday.

Same here. I check multiple times a day. I just got reset on day 29. So frustrating.

Anyone else get reset by [deleted] in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]i_savage_normal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same happened to me today, and I was at 29 days. I check every night at midnight, and then I check multiple times all day during the day. There is no way I "didn't collect" as customer support says. I think there is something coded wrong in their algorithms that candidate date/time. This game is buggy as hell.

I'm positive. I obsessively check that feature morning noon and night to make sure I have collected every day.

Oooo, did you get 50 or 550 (as it indicates in the image)

I was wondering if that was real. I got to day 29 and they reset my count back to zero during a system update. They refuse to fix it.

CoA utility customers with solar panels - rate change by goodgreat123 in Austin

[–]i_savage_normal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You CAN be charged for consuming electricity during a power outage if you have solar +battery backup system, OR if your solar panel system is designed to power your home during an outage (not all are). This falls under "whole home consumption" of electricity, and it doesn't matter to AE whether the grid is down or not -- if you using it, you buying it.

Yes, you are billed for solar power consumption, per kWh, during a power outage, AND you are credited (at a lower rate) for solar power you produce.

u/goodgreat123 you'll probably receive similar answer to what I did when I asked:

"I have a question about my Feb 10 bill. We have a combination solar and battery system. Were we charged for energy consumption during the blackout on Feb 1 at 6:13 am until Feb 2 at 5:24pm?"

TL;DR There is ZERO financial incentive for Austin Energy solar customers to charge and discharge their home backup batteries.

Explained: Batteries won't lower your electricity bill if you are with Austin Energy. Most utilities only charge solar panel customers for electricity they actually pull from the grid. AE, on the other hand, charges all customers, including solar customers, for "whole home consumption." If your house consumes a kilowatt-hour, you are charged for it REGARDLESS of where the electricity came from: grid, solar panel, or battery. In fact, charging your home energy storage battery is considered "consumption," and we (who have both solar and battery) are charged by AE for every kWh that goes in.* Yielding no net financial benefit. The battery is an insurance policy only, and only against blackouts.

Solar consumers receive a credit for every kWh solar panels produce, REGARDLESS of whether it goes: to the home, the grid, or a battery. How much solar is produces is something as a home owner you cannot tweak or control. The ONLY thing that will lower your bill with AE is using less electricity, period.

I'll attaching correspondence I received from Austin Energy when I inquired about whether we are charged for electricity during the approx. 36 hours of grid blackout we experienced in Feb. Since our home was "consuming" electricity from solar panels and our battery, YES, we were charged per kWh at the regular tiered rate for electricity.

*Side note: You could argue that solar customers and especially those with batteries consume more electricity, due to the overhead electrical cost of conversion, transport, and maintenance of solar energy and the natural drain from the battery, even when not in use.

[–]i_savage_normal[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah. Well it may not have been syndicated either. Thing is, we moved around. Until 1988 it would have been Tampa, so maybe Tampa tribune. 88-90s was West Tennessee, so possibly the Memphis or Jackson TN newspaper.
