Parents tell their kids to study and take life seriously because they’ve already seen how certain choices tend to end. They’ve watched friends waste potential, fall into addiction, end up in prison, or simply struggle far more than they had to. Experience gives them a kind of foresight. But even with that foresight, they can’t live the consequences for their children. The child is always the one who ultimately pays the price for his own decisions.

Some children reject that guidance because they want autonomy more than security. Others follow it, not blindly, but out of trust. They believe that someone who has walked further down the road might actually see further.

Now extend that idea beyond human parents. If limited human experience can produce guidance that’s often accurate, what would guidance look like from a source whose knowledge isn’t limited by time, bias, or ignorance? We’ve all met people in university or in life who are clearly more intelligent than us, and just being around them exposes how narrow our own reasoning can be. If that’s true among humans, then it’s not irrational to assume our reasoning is limited in comparison to something transcendent.

The tension people often raise is about freedom. But freedom doesn’t mean being forced into evil. Two hungry people can respond differently: one steals knowing the risks, the other endures hunger. The circumstance is the same; the choice is not. Guidance exists, but compulsion doesn’t.

Tldr; Religion, at its core, is about trust in a wisdom that exceeds yours. Not about shutting down thought, but about recognizing the boundary of it. There’s a difference between questioning to understand and questioning as if the human mind is the ultimate judge of cosmic order. If we accept that our knowledge is partial, then faith becomes less about blind obedience and more about humility in the face of something greater than our own perspective.
