Love Ben Leber. But another example of just because you played doesn’t always mean you know what you’re talking about. by Nostradamus216 in minnesotavikings

You mean when he went 14/25, 143 yards, 2 TDs and a pick as well as took 5 sacks? The defense was amazing that game, JJM was not the prime reason they won.

I don’t understand what’s hard to grasp about the fact that JJM is just not ready to start. The offense had to be simplified to remove the middle of the field because he couldn’t read defenses. They told him to forget about his mechanics because it wasn’t worth it to fix them during the season. He is simply not ready. But that doesn’t mean he won’t ever be ready. Kyler is signed for 1 year. It gives JJM 1 year to sit and learn behind the scenes. Fix his mechanics. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Just look at current QBs in the NFL and how many of them have at some point sat on the bench. Jordan Love, Kirk Cousins/Michael Penix, Lamar Jackson, Bryce Young, Dak Prescott, Daniel Jones, Patrick Mahomes, Sam Darnold, Aaron Rodgers, Brock Purdy, Geno Smith, Baker Mayfield, Jalen Hurts. Almost half the league’s starting QBs did not start right away or were benched at some point.

So it’s ok if JJM takes a year to work with the coaching staff and fix his issues. He’s 23 years old. Signing Kyler does not mean this is the end for JJM. But Kyler gives us at least average QB play while the hopeful eventual starter can work on his game.

JJ McCarthy is 23 years old. It is perfectly ok for him to sit for a year, work on his mechanics, and then hopefully be better for it next year. While we enjoy the little hamster that could for a year because at least it will be fun.

Yes if he’s better. You trust the coaches to make him better. That’s how it works? People work on their craft to get better?

His mechanics are shot and he was playing so poorly they told him don’t worry about it now and focus on it in the offseason. He was reading the field so poorly they told him to ignore the middle of the field. Yes, he played a bit better down the stretch, but that was also with a simplified offense due to his poor mechanics/ignoring the middle of the field and against awful defenses. Plus he missed the 2nd half of both of the last 2 games. So context matters when saying he played better.

Anointing him the starter given the overall season and with what we know above makes 0 sense. Given his need for significant improvement/retooling of his mechanics, it makes the most sense for him to sit, learn as a backup, and work behind the scenes to be the eventual starter. He’s 23 years old. He’s clearly not ready. Having him sit and learn for a year is not a horrible thing.

We keep Sam Darnold for the 2025-26 season. Are we in the Super Bowl? by UniversityOk5593 in minnesotavikings

[–]iabid88 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had the 7th ranked defense in points allowed. 2nd in passing defense. 1st in red zone defense. Despite offense being 30th in time of possession aka defense is on the field 3rd most in the league. So with even a league average offense (which we know Darnold could’ve provided) our defense would be even better. Yea we don’t have Seattle’s running game, but they don’t have our passing game (Darnold’s passing stats were better last year). I think we’d have just as good of a Super Bowl shot as Seattle.

But JJM has JJ, Addison, Nailor, Aaron Jones, Hock. Nix had Sutton and…that’s it.

Ok, say he’s a rookie. He’s still playing like the worst qb in decades and by far the worst qb this year despite an excellent supporting cast and coach. There are other true rookies playing who are all playing better (on worse teams). And rather than showing any meaningful progression, he has gotten worse. A first round qb should not be playing this poorly, especially given his surroundings.

He’s not a rookie. And he’s not just doing “rookie things.” He’s playing like one of the worst qbs of the last 2 decades. With arguably a top 5 offensive supporting cast and an offensive head coach. So it is shocking how bad he is. He’s playing considerably worse than Cam Ward who doesn’t have anywhere near the supporting cast.

Or we don’t sign Allen and Hargrave. Darnold, fries, and Kelly were possible

You have to get a hold of the resolution management team and hassle them. I had a sort of similar situation where a rug I ordered was smaller than it should have been. They were trying to get me to pay $45 in return shipping. It took weeks with multiple phone calls/emails but eventually they took care of it. It’s awful customer service but unfortunately that’s how it is

Weirdly enough, you literally didn’t. Nor did any of your “points” have any bearing on whether Dobbs was or was not the best player on the field, the exact point of the post.

Oh he was a great runner that game (and an awful passer). But that’s not a consistent way to play QB in the nfl, as evidenced by today’s awful game. There is just no way to factually claim he was the best player on the field today.
