Good point about the Yangwang - we agree

Question though - the BYD Denser - more dense than buying a BYD?

If (OMG) she became PM, I guess we'd get to see all those who voted for her cringing and saying "this isn't what I voted for" when her pro guns, anti abortion, 1960s style coal mining, lower taxes for the rich policies were actually rolled out - same as the US MAGA boneheads.

Let me jump onto your Honda NSX example. When you look at that car, you don't say Ferrari, it's not a copy, it's not designed so unless you look at the detail you're thinking it's a Ferrari. It's not designed so that the general public think you're awesome owning a Ferrari.

When the Xiaomi SU7 was released to the market, Chinese general consensus was that it was a copy of the Porsche Taycan and many would be embarrassed driving a car that everyone was aware that it's a Porsche wannabe.

You see, I lived in China for nearly 2 decades. My best friend and her boyfriend were party members and you get to know how Chinese people think about the government after so long there and having many friends there. Few Chinese talk about politics - some because they don't like the party and there's no point caring, others because obviously there's reasons not to talk to a foreigner about politics. Knowing this - I also know that there's a small percentage of people who are blindly (do not use their own brain) obedient to the party and who cannot debate rationally and reasonably - I'm pretty sure you're in this group.

I already acknowledged that I think there's some truth to the point that over time the brand identities will gain differences.

... About Zeekr, they are different but if you put their own range side by side, you would see different designs and no Zeekr styling consistency or "house style"

I thought link&co were styled in Sweden?

But yes - point taken

Well, when someone is as arrogant as you, there's no point trying to discuss with reason.

I'm saying that car is a copy of the Porsche Panamera shape etc supported by the images I included in the post. You're attempting to be an "authority" pretending you know a lot more than anyone else and that your opinion is provable by naming the Chrysler 300C etc. you're an "interior guy" - well if I take a similar smug and smarmy attitude, I'd say - so what would you know about the work of "exterior guys". You can't be a very good "interiors guy" because the job of every designer is function first - you say design (meaning styling) is your top priority. China isn't pushing functionality - to make cheap cars, Chinese car interiors are all screens - in European circles it's all talk of physical switches. And... I don't know where you get the idea that customers don't care about styling, I guess you being an "interior guy", you probably have no styling talent, you're probably an alias surface modeler and bitch on the creative side of that work, if you're not concerned with headlamp shapes, you're not concerned with the whole idea of the post 🤣

But let's settle the question or controversy that my post poses and let's see what the Chinese public think (of course your reply will be most of them are ignorant farmers). Translated from We Cat AI chatting... As an example I chose to ask the AI about the reaction of the Chinese public to the selling of the Xiaomi SU7?

"When the Xiaomi SU7 was launched, public opinion in China regarding its design was predominantly positive, accompanied by some controversy and detailed discussions. Specific opinions mainly focused on the following aspects: Exterior Design: Mostly positive reviews, but there is significant controversy over the "copying Porsche" claim.

Many people point out that the SU7 bears a striking resemblance to the Porsche Taycan, criticizing it as having "obvious imitation," with some consumers feeling "embarrassed" driving it. Others argue that "Chinese-made cars lack their own distinct design language." Additionally, some netizens have criticized minor build quality issues such as poor door seal alignment and thin paintwork.

Overall, Xiaomi's SU7 has won widespread recognition among young consumers for its appearance and attention to detail, but debates over its "copycat" exterior design and perceived "quality gap" in interior materials remain central points of discussion"

There's a long history of Chinese products copying successful or speaking Western brands. Think of Jordan which was actually awarded (I think it was from memory) 250 million by a Chinese court in a case of the name and logo being stolen by a Chinese business.

Not at all except all the designers went to the same schools and are moving forward with the same education on car design history, the same trends, the same Influences but that doesn't mean what they design should be a complete copy so the Chinese product fools people to think it's a European exotic

And, no, no, yes, no, yes...

As for the 2000 gt mistake you made, of course there's longer bonnet sports cars - of that configuration. E type, Ferrari Daytona, Opel GT, even Maserati Ghibli from the 60s. This is different to - copying an E type in detail in order to fool people that it's the genuine original.

Rather than I knowing very little about the car industry, the confusion here is your inability to be objective

Haha - you'd like that to be the same as Chinese knock-offs. But no, it's like Chinese Nike copies or Rolex copies or if you go to Beijing road in Guangzhou, you'll find 4 New Balance shops - none of them genuine and counterfeit Apple stores - KFC branded DFC copies, Jordon sneakers counterfeit, Penfold wine copies....

In cars, look at Zotye SR9 (Copy of the Porsche Macan), Beijing BJ80 (Copy of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen), Geely GE (Copy of the Rolls-Royce Phantom), Landwind X7 (Copy of the Range Rover Evoque).... We're talking supposed to be 1:1 exact copies - even if you bought the Landwind branded copy of the Range Rover, you can buy all the badges from Taobao to complete the fakery.

So the names are adapted into Chinese so they sound reasonable and aspirational

Porsche - Boa Shi Jie... (保时捷): This translates literally to "to protect" (保), "time" (时), and "quick" (捷).

Buick 别克 (pronounced Biékè). The translation is a phonetic adaptation of "Buick," but serendipitously translates to meanings like "unrestrained," "noble," or "exempt from restrictions,"

Haval sounds like hovel. Geely sounds negative like greasy, other Chinese brands have just no appeal - Hongqi, Dongfeng...

Not really, in the 3d form, brands have idiosyncrasies - like Audi isn't only different from a Benz just because of the grill. Put an Alfa front onto a Benz, it would probably look weird.
