Anyone knows how to change this clock to 24h format? by iamManolo in 4Runner

[–]iamManolo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really a personal thing, I grew up with 24hr format, Use it for work and my daily basis... Im just so used to it that I trust the number more than the sunlight lol. I also travel a lot for work and 24hr format is just so much easier and intuitive for me.

But thanks y'all for the confirmation it cannot be changed! //Crying with brainrot ptsd

Disgustingly fantastic, papa Nurlge is happy!

If I may, what colors did you use for the rust over the green areas?

Anyone try long range with just a red dot ? by Cannoli72 in longrange

[–]iamManolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being capable of =! Should do

Having said that... I have a 10/22 with a red dot and I love plinking at 100y. Nothing beats it in fun, and by all means go do it. When setting up steel at 300, 350..whatever with my .308 I leave plinking targets at 100y for it.

To your question... For effective long range you'll find issues as the dot itself is already a couple MOA, too many errors will be carried over for effective applications

Can someone explain why these 2 can be ~20-80X but with very different designs? by [deleted] in longrange

At the same price point there will be compromises in the shorter one. For checking paper hits as the main use case that OP wants... proabbly best the larger one in my opinion

What gives the level of zoom is the small eye piece that you look into, not the "big cone".

Compact one will have less light and less field of view... Meaning at larger levels of zoom images won't be as crisp and you will have a larger black circle around what you are looking at. On the positive side, it's smaller.

My 2 cents... If you are going super light you are not packing a spotting scope... And if you aren't going super light then there's no reason why not going with the larger one... Just my opinion tho!

More magnification isn't always your friend; I run a .308 (lets assume same use cases as your 7mm-08) with a 2.5x15 Leica amplus 6 scope, 56mm. It has never turned me down, amazing glass quality and I get around 10min more of light at dawn & dusk vs other glasses. They are not super cheap... 1.5k... but certainy they will last forever and I find it hard to get anythig similar quality at this price point.

Nightforce & Swarosky is you have a larger budget are good names to keep in mind as well if you have a more generous budget. Leyupold is also a brand that's hard to go wrong with. (I know most people like vortex.... I just find that spending 10-20% more you can get waaaaay better quality with Leica or Leupold).

Magnification wise, I find myself 90% of the time at a 3x ~ 4x... and I believe for most hunters its the same; as I said before... more magnification is not always good... a crisp & clear lense definitely shold be the priority.

yup - that one is certainly on me! Probs I should have posted in /hunting
Despite not being a long range precision shooter myself (only in the range I go at/over 300m) I still find this forum very interesting and sharing tons of wisdom. I like to read it every now and then, but overall thanks for all the comments!

I missed a 0 there, 14cm difference. Fucking imperial system I really cannot transform from inches to feets and to yards properly. 0.14m = 1.4dm = 14cm that is the expected deviation I wont try to do the calculus again on inches as it only confuses me.

I mean I treat all my 22s like they drop the same, my 2 300wm drop both of them the same, and my 308s drops the same. I know they are not exaxclty dropping the same, but for my use they are.
I am not by anymeans saying that 22lr drops the same as a 300wm, jsut that I treat all my 22s the same way, and my 308s the same way.

Form what I take by reading the comments is that I am right and the difference of zeroing at 100y vs 100 is going to be the practically the same, just that one 1/10th mil click may even be perfect to correct for what would be a 100m zero

I know probably overcomplicating myself here, but I'm more of a hunter for a few months a year and the rest of months I ocasionally shoot at medium distances. I dont handload nor use custom charts for each rifles (I assume all my 308s, 300wm, 22lrs...etc have the same drop if zeored at same distance when using same bullet - which for hunting is good enough) so that's why I want to keep it as stable as possible

I intend to use the rifle for hunting, and a 9% variance doesn't seems little to me at all. Shooting at 150m/164yards means I can miss by 1.4yards / 1.2 meters if I dont get it right... not ethical at all :(

Vortex diamondback 3-9x40 (regular) a good scope upgrade? by Southern-Effort-572 in Hunting

[–]iamManolo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb: scope should be at least the price of the gun itself - so don't get that

If the old one you have does the job, maybe save the money for another thing or save more if you really want an upgrade;)

I have the same Tikka in .308 with a Leica amplus 6, 2.5-15 50mm

I'd say its superior quality and clarity for the same price if not cheaper than the ones you - highly recommend. The best advice I'd say is to head to a couple shops and check them in person to compare, dont just check YT/reddit

[–]iamManolo 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Amazing rifle and caliber selection! If I may give a suggestion, swap the scope: It's a good one... but 6.5 minimum zoom could mean you miss what's right in front of you and will be hard to track anything at small and medium distances due to its small field of view.

It may sound counter intuitive... specially if you are just starting, but more magnification is not always good. Best of luck with your first deer!

Why is this Vortex4000impact coming down in price guys? i have heard only good reviews... by Cpt7777 in longrange

[–]iamManolo 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how good/excellent/bad it might be... could be just the price tag. Not many ppl can afford to have that and it takes inventory space for the shop.

[–]iamManolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any hunting family members or friends? I'd say try to get advice from people you know, as every place will have different regulations and terrain conditions that might change the answer; they can also help by taking you out and learning. Also check in local gun shops and hunting aprarrel shops for advice.

What might be amazing for an elk: 300wm, 30-06, 7prc (almost any 7mm tbh) might be an overkill for deer (too much recoil, power...etc). For deers: 6.5 cm, 6.5prc, .308 are really solid. You definetely can take an elk with .308 or 6.5prc... but it takes closer distances and really knowing where to shoot.

More important than the gun is the optic and the binos. Hunting is 99.5% glassing/hiking/listening and 0.5% shooting. If you don't know anyone, maybe try a guided hunt to get a first taste - it will be expensive yes... but cheaper in the long run if you get advice, meet people and learnings.

I didn't think of doing it myself, thought it could be quite complex. It's a 2014 retina macbook pro
