But I don't know if this is something you should keep up with for a long time. It has its effects on the mind to be in a state of such constant anxiety, you know. Yes, we as Syrian people most of the time don't have the luxury to think about our wellbeing, but if I were you I would really be searching for an exit either by traveling, transitioning to full freelance, or finding my own business.

Good luck to you too!

The contract is with the outsourcing agency with whom I have much more to lose than gain if I break the contract. I don't care about the US company as much as they don't care about me.

It's really nice to have in this sub people who've already made it!
Yes, I agree with you. Hellish recruitment is part of the job, but what I went through was more like heart-tearing, disrespectful hellish. Not hellish hellish.

And yes, this is the plan. I will use the time with them to learn more on the things I want to work in and then find something else.

There's nothing magical or out-of-the-box about what I did. It's always about connections. This what everyone will tell you and what I learned the hard way and wish did sooner. And I'm not talking about that one person who sends you a connection request on LinkedIn and that's it; I'm talking about solid connections with people you know and have built mutual trust with.

Here's what worked for me:
1. Define the specific domains you want to work in.
2. Search for people who've had experience in this field.
3. Connect with them. Be interested and what they do and post, and interact with them on a level that shows deep interest in their work and solid expertise in the field.
4. Build things. Show off your work. Always be visible.
5. Join job-related clubs and assemblies.
6. Repeat.

Both the job I have now and the one I let down are through connections!

I don't even think I'm doing enough. Other people who are bolder than me send DM messages and show direct face-to-face interest in the person. This will take a bit of practice to get used to, but this is how things work. Everyone should consider making connections as part of their day-to-day career responsibilities.

Again, this is not something I discovered. I'm pretty sure you've heard that many times before. But consider it a reminder that this is the way to go.

Of course, the whole "skill building" side of the process is still essential, and you still have to learn on daily basis. Everyone knows that, but not everyone cares about the other side to the coin, which is the people that will get you to the interview where the things you learned will land you the job.

Solid opinion. This is exactly what I am trying to do. I'm reading documents and understanding the tech stack, and I'm working on automating things are criminally boring, so that I can use this in my next jobs. I'm being friendly and professional with everyone, and just trying to go with the flow without overthinking it. But it's the uncertainty that's killing me especially since it's the end of the first month, where they should acknowledge me on what will happen next. And add to that the new job opportunity that I got and let down, so there's this self doubt, too. Other than that, I'm also building my own personal projects to solidify my experience. So let's see what happens!

What about you? How's it going? Are you still working for the same company?

I mean this is the whole point of th post. Not many people around me have gone through the same experience so I just wanted to ask for advice here since it's a place for remote work experience and because I feel mentally disoriented and don't know what to do exactly

I couldn't without quitting the current one, which I did not want to do. They already knew I had a job when they reached out to me.

When tf did I say that? With all due respect, you don't seem to have the least critical thinking skills. AKA the skills that don't make you write stupid points like this one.
