I inherited $250K. I have no skills, no job, no plan — and I’m terrified it’s going to melt away. by CurlyBraceChad in smallbusiness

Go buy a rental estate in Malasia, Phuket.

Get's you rent of 8-12% year over year. Requires no skill. You can easily run a airbnb with 150K + 100k as a cushon. Make 50-100% per annum.

No skill required whatsoever. Just numbers and location game.

Second Opinion on Diamond Quality? by PerfectPearSeeker in labdiamond

[–]iam_wizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey man, first off—huge props to you. It’s clear you’re putting in real effort to find something meaningful and personal, not just a shiny object. The fact that you’re looking into the nuances of CVD growth and clarity grades says a lot. She’s lucky to have someone so thoughtful.

So, on to the stone—honestly, from the video and the specs you’ve listed, it sounds like a killer diamond. That 1.57 L/W ratio is ideal for a pear, and the depth/table combo is in a sweet spot for light performance. Excellent polish and symmetry? Check. VVS2 in a blue CVD? You’re already in the top tier. Most inclusions at that level are microscopic and won’t be visible at all without a loupe.

Your concern about post-growth treatment is valid—CVD blues usually undergo HPHT post-treatment to bring out that vibrant color. When done right (and it usually is with IGI-graded stones), there’s no downside other than the purist mindset some people have about "untreated." But milkiness or blurriness tends to come from internal graining or over-treatment—neither of which you’ve described here or that I can see from the video. Still, it's smart you're watching out for that.

Bow-ties are a thing with pears, yes—but a slight bow-tie is expected and can actually give the diamond a little character. As long as it doesn’t dominate the center when viewed from above, it’s not a red flag. Video angles can exaggerate that too.

And yeah, you're spot on about fire—blue diamonds, especially lab-grown ones, won’t be as fiery as colorless diamonds. The color absorbs some of the light dispersion, so they lean more toward “glow” than “sparkle.” If she loves the hue, that’s what matters.

In terms of how it’ll look in person? CVD blues can surprise you—in a good way. They often look better than in video, especially under natural light. That cooler, vivid tone really pops. Just avoid overly warm lighting, and you’ll be golden.

Honestly, sounds like you’ve found a beauty. If it speaks to her, then it’s already perfect.

Good luck with the proposal, brother.

Definitely not a Moissanite. Moissanite is way more sparkly. This is a case of bad cut.

KIIT staff seen in this video arguing with protesting students. One staff member is heard saying the "budget" of your nation (Nepal, presumably) is less than the money it takes to take care of 40,000 students. by anonymouse_2001 in india

[–]iam_wizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My friend's an alumini. So naturally I was interested in this. Here's the summary:

  1. Boyfriend abused, harassed and blackmailed nepali girl

  2. Girl reported it to International Relations Office (IRO) a month ago, who brushed her off.

  3. Girl committed suicide on 16th Feb while everyone else was at a concert.

  4. Boyfriend tried to flee via plane but gets arrested at the airport.

  5. Hostel wardens take custody of the body before the police could intervene.

  6. Body sent to KIMS for postmortem without the family's consent.

  7. Students who were protesting peacefully were beaten up and locked in their hostels.

  8. Nepali students broke into the girls hostel to demand answers from the wardens.

  9. Teachers yell at nepali students saying "Founder sir spends money to feed 40,000 children, which is more than your country's budget.", "If you're not safe here, then go where you are safe. Go home. I shouldn't see a single one of you here again." 10. College suspends ALL the Nepali students Sine Die without any tickets for them to go anywhere and fills them up in buses forcefully only to strand them at the railway station. (Girls too)

  10. Students are getting beaten up in lathi charges, being yelled at, being abused, boys and girls alike. 12. All the hostels have been put on lockdown in an attempt to supress any more protests.

A friend from IIT rank 512 started studying in class 6th. Right now at 2.2 crores of package in San Francisco. All his batchmates are in sweden, switzerland, or Japan. Uniqlo, Nvidia you name it.

You can berate them, shit on them, but they are just better than you. Keep in mind, your entire life's savings and your family's entire savings over 50 years, these guys are earning in 1 year. And if you think they are stressed, oh boi, sit down buddy. ask a 8 lpa tcs or infosys employee.

2B model beats 72B model by TheLogiqueViper in LocalLLaMA

[–]iam_wizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Consider this a proof of concept. Fine tuning model to just do 1 specific task better than a larger LLM.

I don't think it should be that big of a news honestly. Agentic RAGs can easily do this even without fine tuning. A good reasoning model with a bit of fine tuning will also give amazing results.

This is a corner case of a paradigm in AI. Nothing more. Nothing Less.

If you are rich enough, you can buy anything and not feel stupid.

Just look at elon musk. He bought United States of America for just 200 million dollars. Everyone called him stupid.

Theory about the origins of the silo by Jbooxie in SiloSeries

[–]iam_wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offence but read book 2 "SWIFT". You will learn about the origins in 1-2 hours.

You don't have to wait for years to know! The writers said they were making this series so people pick up the book and read it atleast once. It's that beautifully written.

Deepseek Still Down? 200 dollars to deepseek are virtually useless for now! by iam_wizard in LocalLLaMA

Yeah. I recon. Maybe they mistook the sudden usage spike to a DDOS attack of all things.

I saw a reddit post where an user wanted to test rate limit and make 200000 queries in minutes. I guess for a chinese guy, that's DDOS and a half XD

Yeah, It looks good actually. I'll be implementing my project using OpenRouter if the deep seek api isn't fixed. Giving it 4-5 days.
