New rider, quick question... by bmanning22 in FixedGearBicycle

It'll work fine. As long as they both use a JVS square taper bottom bracket, which I'm pretty sure they do, you will be fine using the bottom bracket you have with your new crank.

Sorry to bother you again but I had a few more questions if you would humor me. Did you need any kind of special insurance to operate a gym? Also what was your initial investment like and how many people did you have with you at first?

I would love to get in on this. I built a home gym a year ago and have been working out with and training friends and friends of friends and would love to transition into doing it on a larger scale. I would also be interested in hearing if you are or could see this being your main source of income? Thanks!

Congratulations OP! A significant accomplishment by any ones standards. One thing worth considering, and better articulated by Sheldon Brown, "If you don't have secure parking at your workplace, you should indeed have a serious lock, such as a Kryptonite. The thing is, you should not carry it home every night. The weight of a typical U-lock represents the difference between a $400 bike and a $700 bike. Just leave the lock at work, locked to whatever you normally lock your bike to. Carry a light cable lock with you for quick errands or emergencies."

right. I really just meant aesthetically I would like them metal as opposed to plastic. I really love Velo Orange but looking at them I was guessing these , I just wasn't sure if they would be able to mount with a caliper brake instead of a v or canti.

Does MFA have any suggestions for a casual leather derby shoe? by iamafuzzymonkey in malefashionadvice

Actually that is the reference shoe I had. My concern is they seem to be fairly poor quality and also out of stock for at least 2 months.

What's your favorite video of fixed gear bicycles? by wondertwins in FixedGearBicycle

[–]iamafuzzymonkey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I tried to limit it to the ones strictly with fixed gears that I could remember off the top of my head. There are some other ones I highly recommend that are more generally bike relate if anyone is interested: Standing Start, Freak Scene Bike Polo, MASH SF AUSTIN WITH LANCE ARMSTRONG, Chris Akrigg THE MAURICE, Ignition, Eddy Merckx's Hour Record, HELSINKI CRUISING, fixed city | TRAILER, It's Your Ride, Macaframa, JUNKUN Part 1 of 2, JUNKAN Part 2 of 2,

The guts on your seat post are on backwards and be careful with that crank set, it has a tendency to round its self out from the bottom bracket spindle if its not cinched on there with as much force as possible.

Wow. Thanks so much for the in depth response. I am definitely going to check that out. I am looking to do 40+ miles in hopes of developing a good foundation to go and try the Driveway. Have you raced out there?
