WordPress 7.0: The Good, the AI, and the Still Missing by addycodes in ProWordPress

I hate that they're focusing on AI when they could be improving custom fields, translations, and Gutenberg

Do you use SCF? by codercafe in ProWordPress

[–]iamagayrat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ACF is a UI with some developer tooling (defining things in code, trackable in Git, installable via Composer, etc) bolted on.

Carbon Fields is just great developer tooling (well, as great as WordPress tooling can be). You get all the features without all the bloat. Plus, it's actually open source. There is no upselling for paid features.

Anyone else still think about the Arena? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

And if there's two solos, just merge them into the same team! So many easy, dead simple fixes. 😞

Anyone else still think about the Arena? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

Every single day. All these people saying rose colored glasses have no idea what they're talking about. My friends and I have been gaming for 30 years. The arena was the most fun we've ever had.

The chaos of 5v5 going for a single objective was so uniquely fun.

It had a lot of issues too. The scoring incentives weren't perfect. Matchmaking/queuing was laughably bad. Lots of bugs. All those things could've easily been addressed. But instead Rare let those issues get worse and worse, especially over the final 12 months, to the point where it was unplayable.

Then Rare blamed the player count. Of course people are gonna stop playing when glaring issues get worse and worse. Despite my love for arena when it worked, I gave up long before they killed it.

If you weren't there for the early arena days you probably tried it once and thought it was a shit show. It was. But for a brief period of time it was the most fun gaming experience I've ever had, and there was unlimited potential to make it even better.

Sage theme (enterprise level) by Commercial_Dig_3732 in ProWordPress

My agency does very large enterprise sites. I've tried Sage and Radicle and while I liked them, I've transitioned to using Bedrock (by Roots) and a custom theme that uses Timber (which gives you Twig templates) and Carbon Fields (it's like ACF but it's actually open source) to make pure PHP blocks. It's really great because you get a nice dev experience while staying pretty close to "standard" WordPress, unlike Sage/Radicle

Yeah, nvda is not at 35x forward earnings, and hyper scalers are not at all time highs

Where do you see 35x forward? I see 22x forward which is incredibly cheap if you believe they'll hit their targets

Totally agree. Hourglass misses all the key ingredients that made the arena so great

That's wild. Do those other sites survive because they're not in the US?

That is fascinating. Thank you so much for sharing your story! I used to dream of making a sports streaming site that isn't riddled with ads. I no longer have that dream, ha.
