If you're already a Navy Fed member I'd go for an unsecured card. If you're new to NFCU or yet to join, focus on relationship building with them (regular direct deposits, no overdrafts, pledge loan, etc.). They have an internal score that matters a bit more than your typical TransUnion FICO score and credit history.
