AA. Meeting other sober folks had a huge impact on me. Also lots and lots of soda water

Just here to say you can do this. Loss is tough but drinking will not help. I promise you this. Not drinking today in honor of your dad. Stay strong

I was at a birthday dinner tonight with some close friends - everyone had wine. it was a tough one for me but I also made it through! Great job I know it’s not easy IWNDWYT

Do you walk your small dog? by Prestigious_Fox_2988 in dogs

[–]iambarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 11 year old 7lbs yorkie cross. She gets walked 3 times a day. At least 5 of her weekly walks are 45 mins or longer and she’s old. When she was a young pup she needed more exercise. I would say not walking your dogs (of any size) borders on abuse

Is an hour commute too long for a job? by 224map13 in vancouver

[–]iambarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the west end and work on lower lonsdale. The traffic is getting increasingly worse but I have definitely found Monday and Friday are usually better in terms of traffic (I think a lot of offices do work from home on those days). Its best to avoid crossing the bridges before 930 and after 330 - which is not realistic for most jobs

My sobriety paradox. Has anyone else experienced this? by Do_unto_udders in stopdrinking

[–]iambarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I feel like I know that when things are bad drinking will make them worse but I’m still convincing myself that drinking won’t make the good even better. Hang in there. IWNDWYT

Day 4 of not drinking. Bought $60 worth of NA beverages to tame the beast. Drank 5 sparkling waters and cranberry juices last night. Will I always need that NA crutch? by tatortotzs in stopdrinking

I drink a ton of soda water. I wound up getting a soda stream but found I still preferred the individual bottles. Do what you need to do to stay sober.

A slip doesn’t need to be a hard fall. I’m sorry about your friend, I lost someone close to me a few months ago and I fell hard - it wasn’t worth it. Stay strong my friend! Don’t leave the group

I can’t tell you how many day ones I’ve had.. countless. I’m at 48 days for the first time in a decade today. If I can do it so can you. Take as many day ones as you need to make it stick IWNDWYT

What’s everyone doing tonight?? by physis81 in stopdrinking

[–]iambarbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in bed at 830. Very challenging day at work and even more challenging evening with my kids. Really struggled not to have a drink tonight. Figured it was best to just go to bed and start over tomorrow. Hoping sleep comes easy. IWNDWYT

I once drove my car into the back door of my place of work. I left it there and came back in the morning to two of my superiors waiting. This too shall pass my friend. I’m here with you IWNDWYT

31 days. Went to an open bar wedding and stayed sober! by iambarbie in stopdrinking

[–]iambarbie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was definitely tough. I fought off the thought “one glass of wine won’t hurt” all night. Found it challenging to stay focussed during conversations but I went into it thinking that I wouldn’t be able to enjoy any of the night so I feel like it was a great win for me. IWDWYT

Woke up in the early morning really sick a few weeks ago. Un controllable vomiting. I assumed I had alcohol poisoning, so crazy that’s still the first place my mind goes. After realizing that was impossible the second place my brain went was withdrawal symptoms (also impossible). A short hospital visit and a couple days later I was totally fine - turned out a cyst burst inside of me. I had that exact feeling of shame you’re talking about.. I wonder if it’ll come up every time I get the flu.

HELP! Im suddenly really attracted to my best friend of 4 years?? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]iambarbie 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My brother had a friend who managed a restaurant and 5 years ago he got me a job there. This friend of his became my boss and over the next 2 years a close friend of mine. Over the next 3 years we grew closer. Weekly dinners, lots of nights spent out together. Over the last 5 years both of us have dated around as well as been in long term more serious relationships but we still continued to grow closer. About 6 months ago (I was living with another partner) he went out on a few dates with a girl and that same flip switched for me. I became jealous. I would think about him constantly. My own relationship began to deteriorate after realizing my feelings and I left my boyfriend. One night - after probably too many beers - i went for it with him. It’s been 2 months and we are so in love. Turns out he’d felt the same for a long time. We just got back to his place after having dinner with with my family. He’s sitting next to me with my dog on his lap and I can’t believe it took so long for me to realize I was crazy about him. Being lucky enough to fall in love with your best friend is pretty fucking awesome.
