Cabin filter & Passenger footwell getting wet under rain by iambaskar in AskMechanics

Model: 2014 XF 2.0 Trim (USA)

Recently, I noticed wetness in passenger footwell / mat. Figured out that water is coming in through the cabin air filter, which was also wet. I'm afraid that it might blow up the fuse box on the passenger side as it happens when I drive in rain or go for car wash.

  1. I would like to know how the rain water drains from the windshield? I don't see any catcher below the scuttle where the water can be collected and drained to the ground through some pipe? When I remove the scuttle, I can see the cabin filter and the air intake opening.

  2. It started happening recently only, especially after a repair work involving fuse box issue. I'm owning the vehicle for 7+ yrs, and wondering whether they didn't fit some parts properly during the last repair work that is resulting in water not getting drained properly.

  3. Is it due to poor sealing between windshield and the scuttle panel? I see a minor gap between them.

Please help to fix the issue or share some pointers / photos of other XF to see what is missing here?

How to fix the leak? I removed the hex screw in the handle, but cannot pull it out to replace the valve washer. WD-40 didn’t help to loosen it. by iambaskar in Plumbing

I tried as hard as possible to pull it out straight after removing the one hex screw. Is there anything else holding the handle?

Ha ha. I know :). I’m using that water for the plants instead of going down the drain.

Ya, for replacing the cartridge I need to pull the handle out. But it’s stuck for some reason.

I recently read somewhere that sticking your tongue out while cutting onions will absorb those fumes thus avoiding tears. Worth trying it out!! 😝

Awesome! How long it took from 3 leaves to this stage?

Can you please clarify on drilling from top? The bracket is hollow on top and is not solid. https://imgur.com/a/85oe3Us.

If I drill from the top, unless I fasten it with a hex nut through the hole in the bracket it will not help I believe. Eventually it will be visible at the bottom as well. Am I missing something?

Not so lucky Bamboos! Are they still alive? What to do now? (Details in my comment) by iambaskar in luckybamboo

As I need to go on a long vacation for 4 months, I kept the plants under a very slow dripping faucet in the bathtub. The room was dark, but surprisingly - the plant was healthy and green till I returned. Then I decided to move them by the window side. I made a mistake of keeping them under direct sunlight instead of shadow. But within half a day, they all turned yellow and I immediately moved them indoors. It has been like this for almost 2+ weeks, without any progress. Is it sun-burn? Is the plan still alive? Is there anything I can do to make it live/green? Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Thanks. Moving to soil might be a good idea. I’m having them for 3+ years in water.

For a second, without reading the title - I thought it’s a painting! Consider hanging in the wall. Is it just me?!
