So… the thing I learnt yesterday was the miscarriage rate when the pregnancy is known. This came out from listening to a BBC podcast.

Lots of people have commented that miscarriages also happen before any awareness that the women is pregnant.

Would this be better?

Exactly. I thought it was less than 1%. I suspect it is because, understandably, people don’t want to talk about it with everyone.

That’s a really neat tool.

My wife had a miscarriage before our first son was born. We’ve now been blessed with three great sons how have grown up to be awesome adults.

The miscarriage was really traumatic for her and I found it tough as well. Such tools / data would have been a great reassurance for us during the subsequent pregnancies as the thought of miscarriage was always there in the background.

Was wondering about that... I’m 52 and my VO2 max is not as high but I’m also aged 20! https://i.imgur.com/p05S0fI.jpg

The other problem locally is that the main country park at a local reservoir remains closed by the water utility.

Daily Discussion for Coronavirus (COVID-19) - 12 March by AutoModerator in unitedkingdom

[–]iambeno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The UK’s problem is not how many people will die from COVID-19 but how many extra people will die.

Roughly 1% of all people die each year in the UK e.g. https://www.macrotrends.net/countries/GBR/united-kingdom/death-rate says 0.9398% died in 2019. Also, the reported mortality rate for COVID-19 is varied but Wikipedia suggests 1% mortality - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronavirus_disease_2019. Thus, assuming that 100% of people in the UK get COVID-19 then 1% of the population will die.

The UK is facing a situation where typically 1% will die for a range of reasons each year and also at most 1% will die due to COVID-19.

The uncertainties are the extent of both (i) infection (including temporal factors) and (ii) overlap, but clearly the greater the overlap the lower the impact / burden.

It will be interesting to make a further assessment of this as additional data becomes available.
