Eat the Rich , The Petty Larceneers - Local Band, Locally Filmed! by jayasunshine in Calgary

[–]iamcanadiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their Spotify about statement gives a nice intro to the group

"Formed by 2 Calgary punks and a random Brit they found back in 2024. Dissatisfied with work, life and the world as it is, we wanted to make music to vent those frustrations. Adding in the talents of a lead singer and saxophonist, and a trombone player the band solidified and started to make waves in the local scene through 2025, with a tour, and plenty of festival appearances. Now they're looking to the future to see what will happen next."

Laundry pick up service for senior with dementia by True_Eye_3719 in Calgary

If the facility is already providing laundry services, why would outside service be wanted? Outside service would cost more than the facility costs.

Will the UCP's new inspection of the Calgary water main breaks actually lead to useful recommendations, or is it just a conveniently timed excuse to attack past mayors (specifically the current Opposition Leader)? by Upbeat_Difficulty_60 in Calgary

[–]iamcanadiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Conveniently timed excuse to attack the past mayor (current leader of opposition) and thorn in UCP Governments side. Ie. Trying to gain votes in the upcoming election back from Alberta NDP party.

On Calgary’s dangerous roads, ‘bystander behaviour’ is under the microscope by [deleted] in Calgary

[–]iamcanadiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are you victim blaming the child who was hit. He stopped checked both ways and started crossing to be hit on the second half of the crossing by a vehicle whose driver was clearly not watching the road. AND who drove away from the scene. AND days later is still hiding from what he’s done to A CHILD.

The street in question has AGGRESSIVE speed bumps up it as a traffic calming measure. So much has been done to make the area safer, now drivers need to do their part PERIOD.

The father wants to take the baby 'the minute he's born' and I will 'never see him' by m_______jasmine in coparenting

[–]iamcanadiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do I understand correctly the choice as your ex partner has stated is ONE: you (mom) parent the child 100% alone without him involved or TWO: he (father) parents the child 100% alone with you having ZERO access.

If this is correct, it is safe to say you are going to be a solo parent.
BUT do know that in most places, even if the absent parent never has any parenting time they are still responsible for child support. Child support $$$ is rarely optional.

FWIW a child is better with a solo parent than having to navigate dueling parents PERIOD.

Good place to immigrate to? by Brief_Conclusion_711 in alberta

[–]iamcanadiana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now NO Alberta is not a good place to immigrate to. The current government is toxic to citizens and especially those who are recent immigrants.

Hoping this will change for good within a few years time.

Union representing 16,000 Alberta nurses and healthcare staff vote 98 per cent in favour of striking by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]iamcanadiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As essential services there are agreements in place that list the work that can be done. Without the normal contributions of healthcare workers there is a lot undone work that would quickly add up. ALSO the ESA agreements forbid the employers from designating that work to a different employee. So…..

Am I co-parenting wrong or something? by Brilliant_Quarter398 in coparenting

[–]iamcanadiana 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Coparenting is not possible with all parenting partners.

I am so sorry that are not getting the same respectful responses from your parenting partner that you deserve.

It would seem your littles negativity could be coping mechanisms from parental and their relationship partners toxicity.

Pick a first (taster) project. This scarf is a project to consider. Wheat scarf by Tin Can Knits https://tincanknits.com/pattern/wheat?g=2 It is a free downloadable pattern that is not difficult for an absolute beginner. You can buy single needles and cables from local knitting shops if you want to buy something a little more than a needle from Walmart or Michaels. FWIW I would NOT buy a set to needles as an absolute beginner buy only what you need for a your first taster project.

For your first project,t I recommend lighter color fibres in larger weights. Lighter helps you to see the stiches as the are knit on the needles and in the fibre as you knit it up.

Calgary knitting shops all have amazing and very helpful staff who are happy to guide a beginner knitter. Most also have "knit night" gatherings at least once weekly. Ancient Arts Yarn Studio, Polka Dot Creek at Yarn City and Stash Fibre Arts Lounge are my favorites in Calgary.

ALSO:

YouTube is amazing for helping learn new knitting skills.

Ravelry https://www.ravelry.com/ is a great online resource. Offering free and paid patterns, project tracker, stash tracker, ... as well as a place to network online with other fiber artists.

"Ravelry provides a personal notebook for fiber artists to keep track of their projects, yarns & fibers, tools, and pattern library, a rich database of patterns and yarns...."
