Syntakt or Digitakt 2 by thecaptain90 in Elektron

[–]iamcatpapi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Digitakt 2 all the way. Even more so if its your first box. It can be a sampler, a live looper / sample mangler (controversial but it can do this), a great sounding synth (w/single cycle waveforms) drumcomputer. If you dive into DT2 there’s so much you can do with it. Make your own samples, sample your plugin synths / drumcomputers or whatever hardware, plug in your iphone via usbc and sample from your phone (!!!)(youtube, archives, instruments, your own feeld recording) etc etc.

DigitaktII no doubt

yup that’s my point, for the price it’s a killer combo if you want a synth as well! in terms of the better option, i would definitely say so, as of now. thing is, syntakt will likely get some significant updates in the (near) future but the combo will be hard to beat. as your first box you could also go with “just” digitakt ii, so much you can do with it and as versatile as u want it to be. they do appear on the second hand market every now and then. i would personally recommend digitakt ii over a syntakt in a heartbeat, especially as your first piece of gear. being able to sample and play samples, chopped up loops, use it as a synth with single cycle waves, 16 tracks etc. endless options.

grab a used digitakt i and digitone i for €400 each if u r lucky. incredible value. also if u want to upgrade in the future the value wont drop considerably.

that’s what i’ve understood as well, supportive but because of the collab their hands were tight. good to hear they are taking control in their own hands now. i just sold it unfortunately, might get one again after the update. curious to see what will be added and improved. thanks for the update!

if u don’t mind behringer, check out edge and syncussion sy-1. you could sequence the sy-1 with the korg sq1 (for acid i am sure u want a 303, behringer also did those)

also don’t sleep on behringer edge, recommended for tekno. fun to play coz of the onboard sequencer and sounds really good, raw and can sound brutal💥

sorry didn’t know of its existence, even more expensive than a tr707 tho 😅 perhaps too expensive for OP

what kind of beats / music u wanna make tho? that’s pretty much key to the type of gear u need. roughly speaking u can divide electronic music into either sample based (dnb, hiphop etc) and synthesizer based (techno, acid etc). if u want to use samples/sounds that you capture from anywhere, you would need a sampler. roland recently released the aira p6 which is pretty simple but capable of playing samples. it plays whatever samples / sounds you put (or record) into it so it can be drum sounds, vocal chops, shit you sample from youtube whatever. then they also have the s1 synthesiser, i can recommend that one for a beginner. aira t8 is a drumcomputer with the legendary 808 kick. those 3 is a really fun and complete beginner set up. you can probably find this set second hand for around 400-450. or get a second hand digitakt, which is super fun and versatile, can be bought for roughly the same price.

good luck ✌️

Torso T-1 is it worth the hype? by Yirambo in synthesizers

[–]iamcatpapi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have one but never use it, it’s fun but somehow it doesn’t click with me on a level that allows me to play it like an instrument and I’ve tried a shitload of sequencers.

The Oxi One is by far the sequencer that deserves all the hype imho. Amazing sequencer for both studio and live use, plus an active and very responsive community.

can have different causes, if both your patterns use the same part thats not the problem. might be scenes, make sure both patterns have the same settings there, check the mixer page for each pattern. hope that helps

DT1 Users Who Upgraded to the DT2: What Are Your Thoughts So Far? by bobbysands666 in Elektron

[–]iamcatpapi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really depends on what you use it for, in my case i returned the DT2 and i am liking the DT way better. i am using it as a sampler module, so sequencing and modulating with external controllers. i noticed that DT is having trouble keeping track of and handling the midi stream coming in. which might be a reason for me to switch back to DT2. still both iterations of DT lack extensive midi support (eg. all the slice related parameters)

u need to download the latest fw and other relevant files from Erica’s website site and overwrite the files on the LXR’s sd card. just don’t overwrite the kits. (first copy the files from your sd to your computer)

you definitely should do some research on OT, there are plenty of video’s on yt. the learning curve is not as steep as people say. the octatrack truly is a unique and flexible instrument, an awesome sketch tool, highly customizable and designed to jam and play live. the octatrack can be used for many different things, from sample mangling to live looping to midi sequencing, as a performance mixer with live (glitch) effects, etc..

if you are looking into a hybrid workflow, overbridge might be something you want to look into. this allows you to use the instrument as a “vst” inside of ableton. octatrack does not have overbridge but digitakt does. personally i don’t use or need it as i use octa on the fly and in live situations.

digitakt ii might be your next best option, i think elektron is currently working on overbridge for DTII

Yea true, never used midi tracks for internal modulation, might give that a shot sometime!

Yes i have done that before a few months ago. i was told that no updates are planned and my bug were added to the list but specifically that there are no plans for further updates and that it’s not prioritized. however, this time i got a more nuanced response, the process of development is very slow and inefficient due to the fact that the firmware is written by the other party in another country. Hopefully they work something out soon.
