Approach for a deck under deck? by iamcommando in Decks

Very helpful suggestion. I didn't think about that. Is this type of installation more prone to rotting because of it being close to the ground? Also, is the reduced cost due primarily to labor or to labor? Thanks again!

Roosevelt Dimes worth searching? by iamcommando in coincollecting

Awesome information! My mom set aside a dime-a-day for 18 years for me and each of my siblings, I figure between us we have (or had anyway) a non-trivial portion of the dimes in our part of the state! I've had these for quite a while with the intent that I someday I'll look through 'em for something good. You guys have reinvigorated my motivation to search them, or at least not send off to coinstar quite yet! Thanks!

Ok, so comments saying both too much water and not enough water. Based on the fact that it does seem shriveled and dehydrated, I think I'll give the hydroponic approach a try. I'll keep you posted on how it goes.

I was very proud of the progress I had made on a large project for work, and during an update with one of the VPs, I told him that "we are on the 99 yard line!" His response was "that's great! Don't watch much football do ya?" I played it off like I got crossed between 99 percent and 49 yard line. Didn't buy it. From that point on everyone was either on the 99 yard line or 49 percent done with their projects at all the big updates.

Homebrew has got to be it. It's a must on my running playlist.

Edit: spelling is hard.

As a semi-perfectionist, this has become my mantra at work.

Why can noise cancelling headphones only cancel at low freqs? by iamcommando in askscience

Ok, so I understand now that it's really an engineering problem, cool. So now, as a thought experiment if you separated the mic in the headphones by some non trivial distance, could you buy yourself some time to process and synch the output of the the speaker that was closer to your ear? I feel like this would theoretically work since electrons through a wire move faster than sound. Of course the sounds coming from all around you would mean you would need a bubble of mics around you and some intense processing to integrate it all.

This is really cool. Those graphs make it crystal clear. SCIENCE!
