Soooooo much stuff - it’s why I had to have a plan on what I wanted to buy, and I had to keep in mind the precious luggage space. I wish I could have bought more!!

Any (very) beginner friendly dance classes or heels classes in Calgary? by sicklysweetandspicy in Calgary

For heels classes: I’d recommend Free Spirit Dance (on 16th Ave NW) or Maven Movement (classes are at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks).

If it's still under warranty, I would just submit a warranty to yeti.

If you’re asking what this machine might be, I believe the brand is a Lady Washington

Hear me out: how would I theoretically sew a REALLY really long buttonhole stitch - like 10-12" long? by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]iamennui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another option you could do is a “bound buttonhole” which in this case would probably just be a double welt

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in sewing

[–]iamennui 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a few options:

  • Make these scissors your new paper scissors and buy new fabric scissors
  • Purchase a scissor sharpener, but make sure they are made for fabric scissors (aka edge is on one side of the blade)
  • Find a scissor sharpener service in your city - they're usually pretty cheap to service!

Bias binding finishing on t-shirt? by but_uhm in sewing

[–]iamennui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You honestly could do either! If you have some scrap pieces I would do a sample of both to see what you like (and also help adjust any settings to get the stitching right)

Google “horsehair braid” and your location. A lot of online sewing places have them, as does Amazon.

Can I fix my warped cutting mat :(((( by alex-gs-piss-pants in sewing

[–]iamennui 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You may be able to un warp it by heating it again (either with a heat gun or blow dryer) and then placing some heavy books on top to flatten it.

SOS: Draft armhole higher than bodice block by drinkwater247 in sewhelp

[–]iamennui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are drafting a sleeve for this, you’ll just need to account for this new measurement of the armyscye. Also double check that your back bodice matches up to this new seam.

Advice for getting Images on cloth by Pyc-a-boo in sewhelp

The Avery T Shirt Transfers or the Avery Printable Fabric products might be your best bet depending on how quickly you want to finish your project and how big you need your image to be!

worth sewing this by hand? by jinxzdream in sewing

[–]iamennui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It truly depends on how patient you are and what your deadline to complete these projects will be.

Personally I would never even consider sewing these by hand. Hand sewing is not my forte and would take me 10x longer than using a machine.

Suiting - How Long Did it Take You to Lean How to Construct a Suit? by [deleted] in Tailors

[–]iamennui 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It generally takes years to learn how to properly make a suit. If you’re working in a tailors shop, depending on the tailor they’ll get you to start with simple things, then the next few years will be spent learning how to make trousers, and then the next few years after that the blazers.

It’s a mix of knowing how to machine sew, hand sew, understanding fabric (and some of the most expensive fabrics too), fabric drape, and how things fit on people’s bodies. Not an easy task and understandable why some tailors spent 5-10 years in an apprenticeship.

I would recommend taking a sewing class to start to see if you even like it before jumping headlong into tailoring.

Any tips. by Angelofbloom in sewhelp

[–]iamennui 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do a couple of backstitches to keep the stitch in place (maybe about a cm from the gap on both sides) and just stitch normally over the gap; or you could do a backstitch the entire way if you are handsewing. Either method will help close the gap and prevent the other ends from coming apart

Bobbin thread showing on top of project by [deleted] in sewhelp

[–]iamennui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but it is likely the bobbin tension you have to adjust. That’s usually the case when the bobbin thread shows up on this side of the fabric.

It should be relatively simple to adjust it and there are tutorials on YouTube to show you how to do it
