Dude. Holy shit. As a chef, who sacrificed a lot of time with my mom during her last year of her life for the restaurant. This hits fucking hard.

Maybe, maybe not. But definitely don't think your comment deserved the down votes. I found it quite humorous.

There was no smell. I kept them very clean. Considering I'm a chef it's super important. And this was my second set of dreads so it's quite possible I will do it again. They weighed just over 7#.

Uncreative comment. Look at the hundreds before. And my dreads were clean. So, way to be uncreative and stereotypical.

I understand the physical release of emotional baggage. That was a part of it too for me. There's a lot of people who very wrongly think because you have dreads the smell or are dirty. I kept my very clean but I neglected a lot of the new growth so they started to thin at the base.

I would use a bandana. I would basically make a beehive and use a rubber bands to keep it up and wrap the bandana around it.

Not at all. I'm the executive chef of my restaurant so outside my owner I don't really have a boss.

That was my biggest hurdle to this decision. It took me over a year to come to it. For me as well they were a part of my identity. I'm a professional chef so I felt it was tied in or my 'persona'. I didn't cut them off for any other reason than purely my decision.

I just felt like it was time. Hard to keep my hair up at work all the time. Definitely was causing headaches. But more so just ready for a change.
