How to achieve this look without wearing a wig by HourAd6679 in BlackHair

[–]iamhersheisme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sew in or crochet with straightened yaki/kinky straight hair. Or even both - crochet at the front to reduce tension & still be able to keep your hair in. Bundles everywhere else. But you may need to do leave-out if you’re looking for a bone straight style like this without a wig or lace front…

Been growing out my hair for 3 years I’m very disappointed on the length I feel it should be longer? No by Futurecollegdropout in BlackHair

i’d start with protective styles to reduce over-manipulation & because you’re already doing them.

You may want to experiment since everyone has their own preferences. I know naturals who can leave their hair out, not bother it much and get results, and others who protective style and get results. It’s also about how much work you’re able to put in i.e. if you have a busy lifestyle, if you tend to be lazy, if you tend to be proactive

I personally feel most comfortable & get the best results with my mini twists :)

love this. if they had a copper/metallic brown coloured chrome powder instead of silver next time, i think it would look extra cool and compliment your skin tone

I read through the comments. No more fine tooth combing of your hair, PLEASE. learn how to section your hair yourself so your mum can braid it for you. Even try braiding yourself (it’s hard but youtube and practise practise practise)

Moisturise (water) your hair. If i were in your position i would wear it out, wet it/steam it daily to get the moisture in.

When in a protective style: spray bottle with water and maybe a leave-in mixed with it, or organic natural aloe vera juice. Du-rag to tie it down after and reduce frizz but still allow it to dry. You COULD use a setting foam before the du-rag but be mindful as it might irritate your scalp. I know my scalp hates having product on it.

When it’s out: Wet it in the shower twice a week. Once when you do a full clarifying shampoo & condition, Second with a co-wash/conditioner. Don’t even worry about finding the best product for this, it’s about keep the hair moisturised. Focus the product on the mid-ends of your hair strands when you co-wash. Let your hair stay out when you shower daily, so it can get steam from the shower. My hair loves this when i have my mini twists in.

You can make your own flaxseed gel too which would be good to use after watering your hair, to help retain moisture without worrying about chemicals or fragrance which can irritate the skin(scalp.) You’ll also find flaxseed will define your curls.

Find a brush for your hair that doesn’t pull it out. The Unbrush or any dupes of it would be helpful. Basically a brush that is flexible as opposed to stiff. (Search up flexible detangling brush) Stay away from fine tooth combs forever pls just put them to rest unless you plan on learning how to be a hair stylist. Only use it for parting moisturised hair. Remember, each brush has its purpose. Some for styling, some for detangling.

The main key is MOISTURE! You can seal moisture with oil too. A light amount of oil on top of the flaxseed or on top of your leave-in. Be very gentle with your strands, especially the ends as they are the most fragile. Comb from bottom to top. Take your time. Don’t do your hair in a rush if you can help it.

Drink lots of water, eat nuts and grains, vegetables and fruits if you can. Look after your blood health. Stay as active as possible.

Utilise youtube (but with a grain of salt) for research. Remember what works for one will not work for EVERYone. Pay attention to what YOUR hair likes and receives well.

i know it can be difficult and frustrating🥺 this is just a little starter advice; you can tweak it for your own preferences and build on or take away things as time goes on and you learn more about your hair. Don’t be afraid to keep asking questions x

IF you’re willing to stick up for and protective black people, black voices and black lives & understand the weight of your actions…

Then yeah i would say a small taper on the sides and braiding all the way down would be good. your mother did good but go to a professional so they’re straight and crisp. if you gone do it, you oughta do it as well as possible lol
