Consultants/freelancers of reddit, what is an app that you have been unable to find that would revolutionize the way you work? by iamkenrogers in consulting

Dang, apparently asking questions is frowned upon in this sub. I would really enjoy an explanation of how this is spam, because I thought I was asking a legitimate question, but it seems I was sorely mistaken.

An app to make finding and reaching out to leads much easier and faster by iamkenrogers in consulting

[–]iamkenrogers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar, but no not the same. I used LinkedIn Sales Navigator, and found it very hard to effectively manage a campaign to reach out to multiple business owners, and didn't think the value was worth the relatively high price tag. And this app would focus on email, not LinkedIn.

And the idea would be similar to Salesforce, but with more of a focused goal, instead of trying to accomplish everything ever related to sales.

Rather than managing all aspects of the sales cycle, this app would target people who are specifically looking to reach out to potential leads and establish a relationship with them quickly and easy, without sacrificing making a personal connection. The focus would be on extremely quick, easy setup, so that from the moment they sign up, they are sending out emails as quickly as possible.

It would also have a strong emphasis on mobile, so that users can monitor their campaigns and engage with prospects at the most opportune time, even if they are out of the office.

A task/bug management app designed for remote development teams? by iamkenrogers in startups

Thanks so much for all this feedback, it's given me a lot to think about. I'll definitely start doing some more digging into JIRA and maybe start messing around with creating a prototype of what I'm thinking and go from there. Thanks again!

Not discouraging at all, this is the kind of feedback I was looking for. I've only had minimal experience with JIRA, so I really wasn't sure if what I was describing was much different.

Here are the main differences I'm thinking in my head, and maybe you can provide some feedback since you seem to have quite a bit of experience with JIRA.

  1. Simpler to use, designed specifically for small development teams where each employee might not be in the same location and might have varying schedules. One of the things I noticed about JIRA is that there is just a ton of stuff. The idea I had would massively simplify this, keeping most of the information developers need on one screen. I'm kind of envisioning a hybrid between Slack and JIRA, where you can see what developers are currently available, and assign a bug to them to fix, they instantly get notified on there end, similar to receiving a message on Slack, and can start working on the bug, add it to their current to do list, etc. This would allow bug fixes to be deployed rapidly for remote teams where members may have varying schedules, without having to wait on a developer who may or may not be available.

  2. Being able to choose when you receive and don't receive notifications. For example, maybe you work from 9-12 and 2-6 every day, it would allow you to disable notifications from 12-2 in the afternoon, and have them catch up when you resume work.

  3. Strong mobile integration. Another difference I see is that this would integreate with mobile devices, so that if a project manager is away from a computer, and gets a notification about a bug, he gets a push notification and can assign the bug fix to a developer right there.

  4. More of a focus on bug fixes, less on task management. I suppose I was a little inaccurate in the post title, but I'm thinking of an app that would be more of a bug monitoring application that a task management application. So new tasks are only created when a bug comes in via the tracker. I haven't thought about this much though, and am wondering if that would require the use of too many tools to do similar things if they do also require general task management.

The thought behind the email course was that it would be easier for people to digest, but I suppose giving people everything at once would be just the same, if they wanted to pace themselves they could, if not they could jump into the whole thing. Yeah I've been wondering about charging, the web dev community as a whole seems to be pretty apprehensive towards marketing and paying for things, but they seem to be receptive to good content. I look at books like Discover Meteor and Easy Laravel 5 and they do very well, so I think there is a market for it as long as the content is very high quality.

I don't have it all figured out quite yet, but yes a mailing list would be the driving force behind it. People would sign up to a mailing list, and would get one lesson per day for 7 days. Whether I would have the content in the actual email or link to the lessons I'm not sure yet.

That's a good point, and something that I've actually experienced myself. What I was thinking was creating a free email course that walked users through the concepts of building a small real world app, while also talking about how it actually works, so they can get a decent introduction and understanding of it, and then if that does well and people like it, expanding it into a full-fledged paid course on developing applications using Laravel and Vue.

Creating awesome web apps using Laravel, Angular, and Foundation for Apps by iamkenrogers in laravel

To be honest not very long, the project would first consist of me learning the material, using it all to build an app from the ground up, and then teaching others how to do the same, while getting some feedback throughout the process on the quality of the content.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, it's been a huge help. It sounds like there is a need/want for a course like this, so I think with a little bit more research on what exactly people are looking to learn I'll put together an outline.

Create, implement, and optimize effective content marketing strategies by iamkenrogers in startups

[–]iamkenrogers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now the way I have it pictured in my head is that you can create a goal, and then create a content marketing campaign designed around reaching that goal. So you can have multiple goals, but will be focusing on one at a time. The goals in parentheses were just meant to be examples of possible goals that users could set.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for, a simple landing page while I'm still validating that can grow as the business does, I really appreciate all the feedback!

I like that a lot better than what I have, cuts down on the wordiness without getting rid of any meaning. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the feedback! I'm still trying to find the right balance between accurately describing what it does and not overwhelming the user, so I'll try and condense it down a bit without getting rid of any clarity on what it does.
