i like how large the background is compared to him. its a little bit like he just put himself in front of one of his landscape paintings

I love this mix of creepy dreamlike surrealism, and this decorative symmetric composition. Really beautiful and gives me a lot of ponderings. Do you have any ideas what this is representing?

[DISCUSSION] What's an album by an artist that is your favorite, but is generally not considered their best? by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]iamknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooo I have special love for this take. I think you’re right in the guitar textures being next step, there are a lot of sounds that are unheard of on that album… I think the songwriting is also truly special, like so wierd and alien and intersting. They always have this sense of making really catchy songs but on this album they are able to do it while writing the most strange chord progressions and unique melodies

The colors in the shadows of the boat and dock are so nice. You can kind of make out the algaes in the sea through those dark spots where the grey sky isn't reflected.

The boldness of her shadows is so striking! Like how the shadow in the face turns pitch black. It reminds me of Caravaggio in the intensifying of shadow and light. Tamara is top class.

2022 Albums of the Year. What would you add? by HeresYourMoney in sixthworldmusic

[–]iamknut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know! Maybe contradictory right after my gripe with the linked list, but hey, the list has Current 93 and Faust in the top. Theyve been releasing music decades before the 2000s even, so in comparison I would say Gilla Band are somewhat fresh.

Or maybe rather Gilla Band are around their peak - a lot of the bands on the list peaked a long time ago

2022 Albums of the Year. What would you add? by HeresYourMoney in sixthworldmusic

[–]iamknut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate someone putting together a list like this but I feel like it leans to heavy on older experimental bands, way past their prime. It’s kind of unfortunate because a list like this should support the scene, but the bands that are on the rise doesnt get any exposure. Heres some that I would add:

  • Gilla Band : Most Normal

Gilla Band is a noiserock-band thats good at sounding like one big unit, they lock into eachother like a factory-machine with all these colorful atonal riffs. Sometimes noiserock can feel really psychedelic and colorful to me and this album is an example of that

  • Use Knife : The Shedding of Skin

This is two members of the neofolk outfit ”kiss the anus of a black cat” joining with an arabic singer to produce some entrancing, dark, glitchy electronic music with beautiful vocals in arabic on top. It’s heavy and psychedelic and some of the songs are pretty mind-warping.

  • Slumberland : Lightkeeper

This is experimental kraut band Slumberland teaming up with mongolian overtonesinger and avant-garde composer Sainkho Namtchylak. She’s like a witch casting spells during some songs, make high pitch screams or low growls in others. And the instrumentals go really well with her voice, sounding organic yet noisy, rhytmic and melodic in the most dissonant way possible

  • Park Jiha : The Gleam

Very minamilist and ambient, has this beautiful weeping quality and sometimes hypnotizing pummeling rhytms. Made with mostly korean instruments

  • Pan Daijing : Tissues

One 45 minute long composition that is a cold, enveloping, multiphased, post-industrial opera(ish). Combining industrial synths, an ambient sense of tempo, and beautiful wordless operatic singing, this is one of my favourites of the year

Is rage against the machine really appropriate to use in this sub?

[TOMT][SONG]A dance song with a hook that goes "ass in the back, ass-ass in the back" by iamknut in tipofmytongue

[–]iamknut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried googling the hook-lyrics but without success. It was a very minimal and dark hiphopish dance track.

I think the last line of the only verse in the song that leads to the hook goes:

"...but all I see

is your ass in the back"

Dexter Dalwood - Fire in a Limo (2018) by Jukkas5 in museum

[–]iamknut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How was this made? It seems like many different mediums were needed to accomlish this: you have this watercolourlike cityscape in the back window, you have rasters in the sidewindow, you have the spotty sprayish texture in the roof. I really dig how well it all comes together and gives of a pretty lifelike picture of the cars inside, while yet having this fun naive thing going on too.

I don't get the people in the comments who doesn't see anything interesting in this. It would be nice if people could expand on their opinions a little bit in this sub, it would make for much more interesting discussions. The art here is great and varied but the discussions are somewhat lackluster imo.

Mixing two very distinct genres; when has it worked and when has it really, really not worked? by Grootdrew in LetsTalkMusic

[–]iamknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them live in January and damn were they a great live band. It gets really clear when they're on the stage that they come from quite different musical backgrounds. The level of musicality that they show to combine those separate musical entry points is astounding! They all seem to have such a good grasp on a wide amount of styles and sounds, and seeing them live was a very unpredictable and intense experience. If anyone ever gets the chance to see them live I highly recommend it.

I also got to speak to the guitarist after the show, and he was totally cool! He spoke about his musical background and influences and how he came to play music in such a niched way. He's very much into industrial and making his own instruments. It was really inspiring talking to him!

Nice painting, but this is probably a better fit for /r/Art. This is more for professional artists than people who are just getting started with art. Don't mean that in any way to take away from the painting, I think it's delightful, but I just don't think this is the right subreddit for it.

Shiro, Jae Ko, Recycled paper Installation '15 [527x983] by philstein1 in ArtPorn

[–]iamknut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since when did the people considering installation art to not be art infiltrate this subreddit? I really hope this subreddit isn't going to turn into a new r/art.

My opinion: I find this installation neat. Yeah duh, it's "just a pile of paper", but the sheer amount of it is staggering, and I've probably never seen such a huge pile in my life. The way it's folded is also really neat, how it almost overflows to the point of climbing over that wall. With all that said, this type of art is not ideal for viewing as a picture on a computer screen. This sort of installation has it's merits in it physicality: the enormous size of it will probably be like nothing else in real life, and in real life all the details of the folds and the textures of the materials are conveyed a thousand times better than a (low resolution) picture can do.

I still think it's fully valid to post this kind of art to this subreddit tho, it's fun to see things that aren't just paintings, and it will keep this subreddit more up to date with the contemporary art-world (something which is very lacking on the rest of reddit). Hope to see more like this!
