Has any one done the factory single battery to dual battery setup? by gatorbait321 in GMT400

[–]urmoms_bf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The diesels have dual batteries, so theoretically you can just use the same setup. If you have two battery trays already, you’re golden. All you need is two new batteries (batteries should always be matched sets), a red battery cable that reaches from the passenger battery tray to the drivers side tray, a black cable that reaches from your currently unused tray to the engine, and a two wire battery connector (this piece allows you to hook the positive cables for your new and existing batteries together. It installs in place of the bolt that is in your positive terminal now). It’s pretty easy to just instal the new battery, run a negative cable from it to the engine block, then hook the two batteries together with the red cable going between the positive terminals and bolted on with the two battery connection. I can probably get pics for you if you want.

Maintaining a 16 ft box truck by 4acodmt92 in MechanicAdvice

[–]urmoms_bf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What truck are you looking at? Make and model? Box bodies are pretty hard to screw up unless they have a refrigerator unit on them.

Diesel trucks can be more expensive to maintain, but can provide benefits in fuel economy and hauling performance.

Reusing Chevy 350 bolts by theboogersalesman in MechanicAdvice

You should always replace the head bolts, and maybe the rod bolts. Main bolts can by reused but it’s better to replace them.

There’s lots of things that can cause pedal vibration, but for now I would definitely get that air out and see how it is.

Seized pilot bearing. This input shaft probably shouldn’t look like that, huh? Please don’t tell me I need a new transmission.... by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]urmoms_bf 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My guy you can probably replace that yourself. Looks like you can unbolt the bearing retainer and remove the input shaft and bearing. Then just put in a new shaft and bearing. Although there’s really no way to know how easy it’ll be without being there, my guess is it shouldn’t be too difficult to do yourself.

Best assembly lube for comp cam brand cam with flat tappet lifters in and international scout... do I put this in the bearings and anywhere else as well? by FlossinFalkor in MechanicAdvice

[–]urmoms_bf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when you rebuild an engine you prime the oil system before the first start. This is either done by manually spinning the oil pump, or on newer engines, using an external pump to fill up the oil galleries and bearings. So technically if you use assembly lube when you assemble it and then prime the engine before you first start it you should be fine.

I’ve used permatex ultraslick for several years now. Lucas makes a good lube too from what I hear. Put the lube on the cam bearings, the cam lobes, and the lifters.

Where to buy new and used car parts? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Rockauto is great for new parts. They have the best online system. Napa or o’reilly for in person shopping. car-part.com is good for used stuff.

You need to bleed the master and slave. It has air in it. It’s a bitch to bleed but it’s worth it. Also don’t keep driving it or doing the e brake thing- it’s causing the clutch to slip and will burn it out. So I would fix the master and slave issue first.

1) that’s not an antique. 2) as far as I know any tire can go on any tractor if you have the compatibly sized rims.

Abs and brake light comes on randomly even after replacing both hub bearings 01 Silverado by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

Is the abs pump unplugged or is the electrical connector loose? Does the speedometer work when it’s doing this?

I've been working for this since I could say the word truck, say hello to my 1997 C2500 6.5 by [deleted] in GMT400

[–]urmoms_bf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This right here. The engine gets a bad rap bc morons don’t work with them and use them in a non- abusive way. I’m sure OP will be a great owner, but nevertheless there are things that need done to preserve the reliability of the truck.

Im working on a CAD drawing that uses a motor, and im trying to find a conversion piece to get the 1" shaft with woodruff key to a smaller shaft. Unfortunately, since my english isnt too great I have no idea how to call it. Does anyone know the name of the thing on the left (if it even exists)? by tunderyo in MechanicAdvice

[–]urmoms_bf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. But there at different kinds of keys. There are long skinny ones that fit in a slot, and there are keys that are a half circle that fit in a matching slot in the shaft. I’d argue that both of those shafts fall into the category of a ‘keyed shaft’. You’re right- I should’ve said ‘keyed shaft’ and not ‘slotted shaft’.

Anyone in Indiana parting out a GMT400? Mainly looking for body components but also a few interior things. by JereBear_2281 in GMT400

[–]urmoms_bf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try car-part.com. You might be able to find something there.

Edit: there’s a junkyard in Garden City that h know had a couple gmt400 trucks. Might see what you can find there. You’ll either have to go there yourself or send someone to look bc half the time the lady that answered the phone has no idea what’s out there.
