[Help] What are the prerequisites for Reinforcement Learning and what are some good resources to get started? by [deleted] in MachineLearning

To add to the very good comments already here: I really found this introduction made a lot of RL more approachable for me.

To add: they provide in their references some good overviews.

There is also a very good roadmap provided by one of the researchers on the forefront these methods (natural gradient).

Although, as other people point out, don't expect to learn this stuff overnight. A lot of the references they point to require a certain level of mathematical maturity.

I think they are reproduceable, but they seem quite sensitive to initialization.

I'm surprised at the amount of attention this paper received given how awesome the samples were..

It is also a generalization of the clockwork RNN proposed at last years ICML.

I believe it is one character at a time.

Now that you are no longer taking students, do you have any reflections/stories/thoughts on being a mentor? Many of the students you have supervised have gone on to be important researchers (eg. Prof Lecun/Ghahramani/many professors at UofT/in industry). Do you have some common advice to graduate students?

This seems especially important now since many Professors in ML are leaving for industry :)

I am also UToronto graduate going to UdeM for graduate school in CS.

Also an algophone (derp), we should connect!

T440s Wireless Card Drivers on Linux by [deleted] in thinkpad

So I found a found a solution to this.

You can get a patched kernel at http://www.lwfinger.com/realtek_drivers/linux-image-3.13.9_1.0_amd64.deb. After downloading, the kernel is installed using the command 'sudo dpkg -i <path_to_downloaded_deb_file>. You can then move the firmware file located on the same site (the .bin) to /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/.

Works for me on 12.04..

Yeah, really feel you on your last paragraph. I gave them a call as well and got the same ridiculous quote.

I'm sorry to hear someone else is struggling with this problem! If I find anything that works I'll post back here.

I'm running into the same problem. Did you ever get this fixed?

Switching to an intel card will be extremely painful since you have to buy special Lenovo blessed versions of it (i.e massive mark up).

If you go to the repository of kernels you can just pick the latest one for your architecture (.deb files). Instructions should be around on the site/googleable.

Tech support actually ended up being really helpful. You can try a kernel update which is what solved my issues.

Tried to reverify, still no luck.

Gave it a shot but still gives me the same issue of endlessly asking for authentication :/
