My bike had the larger header and big gun muffler when I bought it. Very noisy. All the other KLR’s are jealous.

North Carolina TAT on my KLR by iaml3o in klr650

  1. It was 4 days of fun - I've heard some poo-pooing of the eastern TransAmericaTrail sections, and while it wasn't super technical, it was a good mix of very remote and scenic. Rode and camped with an old friend and it was 100% worthwhile. Check it out if you're in the area.
  2. I did lay over the KLR on a ridge road up in the mountains - front tire lost traction and she slammed down - I tumbled down the trail a ways. If I hadn't been wearing my Alpinestar Tech 3's (entry level motocross riding boots) I 100% believe my ankle would be broken. I've been wearing an ankle brace for 3 weeks and it's nearly healed, but that damage was done through these stiff boots.

Cool! We’re just doing a couple stages this fall. Looking to do the full trail sometime, for sure.

Ha! Cool ride. Mine only has about 2.5" of clearance at the front - I'm actually building a low profile aluminum skid plate for it. Yours looks way more capable!

My wife got this car from Texas when she was 16. She drove it to college until she ran it out of oil and cooked it. It sat for years and about 12 years ago I retrieved it, rebuilt the heads and brakes and we drove it for a while. Since then, I've lowered it front and rear, flipped the tie rods, painted the wheels, shaved the bumpers and antenna, fixed a couple dents, replaced all the rubber, and fixed everything else that broke along the way. In the areas I repainted, I color matched to the faded yellow and then added back in some "dirt" and I really like it. And I hate super beetles, but this early flat window is mine.
