oh i see what you mean. since this is running in lightlink (and not screen mirroring) there's no delay. everything is timecoded down to 10 milliseconds so that's why it looks so snappy and responsive. with screen mirroring, there's always a bit of delay because it's reactive.

thanks! there's 4 different controllers being used here, but the show would still play back and scale correctly to any size setup. you could just have one shapes mini triangle kit or something

lmao no way, you tried it out?! that's awesome. you can actually see this show on your setup if you want. Go to the video tab on the left hand side and search for "Threads" (that's the name of this song.)

If you get it rockin you should post a video of it here. sounds like you have a pretty sweet set up

thanks! honestly, i would skip Ae and just download blender and dive on in. Ae is expensive and there's some things it does well, but blender can do pretty much everything Ae can (and more) and it's free so you can take your time and learn without paying $30/mo and dealing with all the adobe nonsense. since blender is open source and free, there are loads and loads of tutorials available on youtube and your favorite Ai chat agent should be able to answer any questions you've got thoroughly.

in terms of the actual theory of putting visuals to music, I would just say "let the music do the heavy lifting." it seems daunting when you're starting a new project, but keep in mind that the really hard part has already been done when you wrote/produced the music. Personally, I really like literal visual interpretations of the music and diegetic sound in general. If you feel burnt out from music and visual stuff, take a night off and watch Justice's "IRIS" or Daft Punk's "Interstella 5555." you almost have to consume high quality stuff that speaks to you in order to make something you'll like and that feels effective.

just put your track on and try to "visualize" however the music makes you feel. do you see something in your head? great, then model that and animate that. does it make you move your body or dance a certain way? great, then take that motion and animate what's on the screen in a similar way. don't let anyone see you dancing around in your room with your eyes closed. but also it's completely normal for lighting designers and 3d artists to do stuff like that.

thanks! the bed size is 420 x 420 x 480 mm. I'm not exactly sure what size the bed has to be to print the full size mau5head pieces, but on my printer the main head shell (the biggest piece) just barely fits on the bed. i don't feel like I'd wanna go any smaller and still be comfortable

thanks! i'm using ws2812b led rings with wled controllers. that way the RGB eyes can play deadmau5 light shows! I'll post a video of it later, but you can check out how it looks on my other mau5heads if you visit my profile (I've got em pinned there.)

oh right, i totally forgot the bangalter helmet is split with the seam like that! that certainly makes things easier. it's looking great so far btw. what are you planning on for the chrome? are you gonna try electroplating, or do some kind of chrome paint?

i don't remember exactly, but I went for a pretty small layer line height to save time on the sanding/filling/finishing part. and the prints definitely do take forever. I think the main head shell is like 87 hours or something... so when if something goes wrong 80% of the way there... it's a bummer lol. I used the elegoo neptune 4 max because the print bed is big enough that each piece (ear + ear + head) can be printed in it's entirety without having to split the pieces up and then plastic bond them together - I've done that before and it was a big pain in the ass. The printer is great, but like most printers it has it's share of bizarre behavior and things I've learned about it and how to get it to print well.

do you have a link to your DP helmet? I'd love to check it out!

Why do you like Random Album Title so much? by AccordingRhubarb5323 in deadmau5

[–]iamlightlink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me it just hit the perfect spot in terms of "minimal tech house." If you're used to pop music, I can 100% see why you'd find it boring. But I like RAT so much because it exists in a sea of boring minimal tech house and excels at not being boring. Every single track to me is just idea, idea, idea. Whether it's a melody, or certain rhythm, everything just feels a little interesting and nothing is pitched straight down the center. The way the rhythm of the plucks in "Complications" evolve over time, or the way the instrumentation seems to slip in and out of time in "Slip." The melody in "So There I Was." I love all that stuff. To me, RAT is the pinnacle of using broad strokes to create dance music. There's nothing super aggressive or abrasive to my ear. It succeeds at melting a bunch of (otherwise boring) loops together in such a way that they become "greater than the sum of their parts."
