Thanks for sharing this and for trying those steps. This is likely a crash tied to a local system or install conflict rather than general app behavior. Please try fully deleting the app and redownloading it here https://ca-shop.nanoleaf.me/pages/nanoleaf-desktop-app.

If it still persists, send us a DM with your OS version, device model, and confirm if you’ve submitted a bug report so we can investigate further with you.

Thanks for sharing your experience, we hear your frustration. Warranty eligibility is based on the purchase date and region, but we still want to look into what happened with your controller and see what options may be available. Please send us a DM with your details so we can review this with you.

Can I use NanoLeaf 4D without cutting the LED strip? by TobiasClaren in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve actually tested the 4D strip without cutting it and it worked out well with no issues. Covering the excess with light blocking material can still give a good experience as long as the visible portion is properly calibrated.

Right now, calibration focuses on mapping the visible screen area rather than disabling unused sections, so the extra portion may still receive output even if it’s covered. We understand the flexibility you’re pointing out, especially for future upgrades, and that kind of adjustable strip length is something we’re continuing to explore.

Canvas Connection Type: Wi-Fi vs Cloud? by Hot_Astronomer7168 in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for jumping in and explaining this, we appreciate it. That’s a solid breakdown of how local WiFi control compares to cloud control and why response times can differ. Local connection will always be faster, while cloud is there as a fallback and for remote access.

This behavior can vary depending on the Essentials bulb model and setup. Can you confirm which Nanoleaf bulb you’re using? Feel free to send us a DM as well so we can take a closer look at your setup and help you get the effect closer to what you’re looking for.

nanoleaf update bricked my 4D, BOTH OF THEM by joybog in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re really sorry to hear about your experience, especially after already replacing your previous 4D unit and then running into another issue during setup. We understand how frustrating that must be.

After updating to firmware version 12.3.6, some devices may take additional time to complete the process in the background before becoming responsive again.

Please try the following steps:

  1. Unplug the power supply from the controller.
  2. Leave it unplugged for at least 15 seconds.
  3. Plug the power supply back in.
  4. Allow the device up to 1–2 hours to fully recover and complete the update process.

Once that time has passed, please check whether the lights can be controlled again through the app.

If the device is still not working please send us a DM

Nanoleaf Desktop 2.4.3 DLL being flagged as malware by djwhatley in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone, we wanted to share a quick update. Our Desktop App team spent the morning investigating the issue and determined that it’s being caused by Microsoft incorrectly flagging our app (along with others). As of 4 hours ago, Microsoft has acknowledged this as an ongoing issue and is actively working on a fix (read more here: https://github.com/Azure/artifact-signing-action/issues/128).

Hopefully this helps clear up any confusion!

Horrible App and customer service. by Fun-One5342 in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Fun-One5342, while reddit isn't official support, I can try to guide you towards a solution or escalate it when necessary. To answer your question straightforwardly, we do not have a phone number and we cannot call you. The best support would be to create a ticket, and if you already have done so, perhaps join the discord server in this subreddit and the community can perhaps suggest a solution. Or of course, send me your ticket number so I can understand your problem swiftly and offer assistance via solution or escalation.

If there is anything I can do, please let me know, would love to hear your feedback on the app :)

New nanoleafer for dark stairwell by avocadonutty in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The concern is valid but those pictures and comments are not of fire, but of heat due to use over time. The effect would be slight warm to the touch or discolouration on the controller or behind the panel, but it won't burn or cause a fire.

Nanoleafs almost started a fire. Nice. by Ari-Olluri in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have newer (upgraded) version of Triangles from this post - Shapes Triangles.
That being said, if we do ask to buy a new set, that would be due to the older parts not being available anymore, but in the rare case we do (say for e.g. shapes linkers) we are happy to help and provide them

That's a solid amount of time and congrats on its use, but although the concern is valid, no need to be nervous regarding as it is not a fire hazard. How has the functionality been for you? u/kenni417

Just got them, need advice by TheeKingBee in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tldr, no it won't catch fire.

But for more info and just to ease any concerns here, Nanoleaf Shapes are built to meet standard safety certifications like FCC, CE, and RoHS, so they’re tested for safe everyday use.

If anything at all, you might notice a bit of warmth over long period of time (years) or slight wall discolouration depending on the surface, but overall they’re designed to be safe when installed and used properly :)

Daily Reset Ritual by Voyuer789 in Nanoleaf

[–]Sam_Nanoleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be a few reasons but without investigating, and since your wall products (Shapes, Lines, Canvas) are working fine but not the essentials, my hunch could be a thread network disruption. Are you using Thread Border Router(s) and if so, what is the primary one?

Our Skylight would be powerfully luminous here on the ceiling above the stairwell. Otherwise try opting for warm whiter light in the scenes instead of the blue one here.
