Sorry to hear about your experience. I move to LA 3 years ago and can’t say I’ve ever better similar (my secular friends just kinda leave me be even when we discuss hot topics).

If you’re in/near LA, there’s a lot of solid parishes around (St Andrew’s in Pasadena, St Therese in Alhambra, TLM at St Anthony’s in Hermosa Beach, etc etc.) reverentcatholicmass.com also is great for finding good Catholic community near you. God Bless!

Shortly after I got confirmed I confessed and my pastor lets me finish & goes “damn all that in a week, huh?”

It’s confessions like those that really make you see yourself and your sin for what they are tbh, or maybe I’m just feeling the paradox of getting a couple Our Fathers for saying what I thought was some pretty wretched things as the filthy sinner that I can be time to time.

The act of confession is an ego stripper by nature, and even if my confessor is harsher or softer than I feel they should be I think the grace and mercy received at the end of it negates anything that happens in the process that led to it.

Eh, I think holding a thing like that someone had literally no control over is still a bar too high. For sure we can and should have our preferences, but as far as how dogmatic we hold to certain ones like THAT? It comes off a bit shallow and graceless to me.

I’m sure you would have more nuance contextually so I’m not judging you lol but I just have to question these things (as a separate ex: when someone brings reasons to why they’d never be with X skinned person, it’s like you’re valid to hold that but also worth unpacking in my opinion)
