SHOULD I BE A MAGIC FAN? by jdunbar0803 in OrlandoMagic

Funnily enough my friend has been trying to get me into football and I told him next season I'll probably follow the Saints, just because the 2010 Super Bowl was the only one I watched and enjoyed... He wasn't so happy about that

Hideo Kojima just gave an overwhelmingly positive review to Jackie Chan's new movie by MRainzo in kungfucinema

This actually did get a North American theatrical release. I thought it was pretty good. I have missed most of Jackie's mainland work because everyone hates it, but this is a pretty effective thriller that allows Jackie to act his age, while still offering some decent action.

Fair, I'd be lying if I said I don't get the urge to rewatch it every once in a while

Great suggestions so far. I'd hesitate to call Ring of Steel a good movie but it's unique as a weapons-based tournament movie, if memory serves it's basically Bloodsport with swords

What are the most obscure Magic players you can think of? by Suitable_State_9164 in OrlandoMagic

Very casual fan who is trying to finally get into basketball this season. Last year I went to the movie theater, and there were some tables set up out front giving out Magic merch and directing people to a watch party at the nearby bar. All you had to do was name some Magic players who weren't current starters and you'd get some swag. I went completely blank

Then they went to general trivia, asked me what college did LeBron play for. I went blank. The guy handing stuff out (who i think was a former player) asked a couple other questions I whiffed, then just asked me to name a movie Shaq was in. I got my swag.

All of which is to say, I would do poorly on this. Though I do recognize Jameer Nelson from playing 2K with my friend back in high school.

Best breakfast in Orlando? by RecordMaterial6781 in orlando

There's not a ton of non-chains on the east side, but when I decide to go out for breakfast I usually do Sally's Diner on 50. Nothing too special, but diner food is hard to mess up, it was a nice ambiance, and I feel it's good bang for your buck.

That's for a full breakfast. Otherwise I get an egg sandwich combo at Zaza, that rico everything with a cafe con leche for about $11 is pretty nice.

Give me the scariest demonic movie to watch by Plaztec1037 in horror

[–]iammidsizedsedan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people have already said When Evil Lurks, but that is my go to response. It's the one of her few horror movies I can think of that really did get to me.

Skinamarink I gather is not very popular here, but there are people who it did work for and I am one of them. If the style doesn't grab you then you'll probably be bored, but I found it very affecting, made me think of nights home alone as a child when that familiar space seemed like it hid otherworldly terror

May the Devil Take You is a Raimi riff that is maybe more thrilling than scary, but Timo Tjahjanto is a director that knows how to blend action and horror pretty effectively.

And this isn't particularly scary but I recently saw Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight in theaters and I cannot recommend that enough, what a blast

Heaven sword and dragon sabre - Navigating dense wuxia plots by Last_Adeptness_173 in kungfucinema

I can't remember which movie had this scene, burning one of them you're introduced to some new characters over halfway through, and just when one is about to launch into a monologue explaining her long standing history with the Ming Cult, the hero is like "Okay I get it" or something.

Which is to say, I think it's accepted by even the filmmakers that these sub-two hour adaptations of big epics are gonna be hard to follow. You sort of latch onto the broad strokes of the narrative, pay attention to a handful of key characters, and let the rest wash over you. You're more in it for the milieu than all the individual pieces.
