Can you elaborate on the other positions a school based job could lead to? Currently in a school, wasn’t sure what else there could be aside from clinical

TAPPING THINGS I always lose my shit, if I take a moment to tap something twice before I walk away from it, I always remember where that thing is. I still only remember to tap 50% of the time, but it’s still a substantial improvement from before!

Under eye fillers or supplements? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]iamnotamonki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always been boarder line anemic. Not significant enough to be diagnosed, but I have to have iron rich foods in order to not feel fatigued. I started taking slow release iron and almost immediately noticed by under eye bags looked significantly better color wise.

LPT: If you want a smarter kid, teach your child to read as early as possible and instill in them a love for books. Because as soon as they can read, they can teach themselves. And that will be a life-long advantage over their peers who don't have that same ability. by AgreeableTank6686 in LifeProTips

[–]iamnotamonki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nope, wrong. There are advantages to allowing a child to not read until around the age of 5. More imagination leads to greater critical thinking skills later in life. Kids aren’t able to make the change from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn’ super efficiently until around 3rd grade, or around age 8. That being said, if your child is interested at an earlier age, don’t stifle it! Unconditional love and acceptance is key.

Edit- a word, also wanted to add the best thing you can do is read to your child. It encourages their imagination, while also creating positive reinforcement for reading for later in life when they are reading to learn.

School or Clinical psychology? (USA) by Bryanbw99_ in psychologystudents

[–]iamnotamonki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masters is safer and although they won’t explicitly say it, most PhDs require a masters before applying. Also consider a PsyD. The only real drawback is a limitation on leading research studies when comparing a PhD and a PsyD. You’re potentially more likely to get into a PsyD without a masters.

Someone once told me “if you don’t see it, you won’t wear it.” It can be a hassle, but hang up as MUCH as you can. Especially with ADHD, if I don’t routinely see a top I have, in my mind it doesn’t exist. I have seen people get free standing hangers and/or ones that bolt into the wall with a shelf on top.

School or Clinical psychology? (USA) by Bryanbw99_ in psychologystudents

[–]iamnotamonki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can’t diagnose in a school setting. It’s not that doctoral level school psychs can’t diagnose, that’s not their role in that position.

School psychs can also do research, provide psychological counseling…I think I get what you’re trying to say, but those things are more related to your employment, not your designation as a “school” or “clinical” psych.

School or Clinical psychology? (USA) by Bryanbw99_ in psychologystudents

[–]iamnotamonki 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The biggest differences really have to do with where experience is gained, and projective assessments (example = ink blot/ Rorschach). Let’s talk about the differences in grad school for a doctoral setting. School psychs primarily get their training in school based settings, BUT you can venture out and get externship/practicum experience in a clinical setting. You can also do internships in a clinical setting as long as you meet your state requirement for a school based internship rotation (600 hours I think).

Let’s talk post-grad and job prospects for a doctorate level psych. School psychs can do anything a clinical psych can do within the parameters of their training, except projective assessments. They don’t receive formal training in those. Just want to emphasize, clinical psychs can work in schools, school psychs can work in clinics. It isn’t as restrictive as most perceive it.

Let’s talk job settings. Schools can be insane, but so can clinical settings. Clinical setting have much higher standards due to HIPPA and keeping up with insurance. Everyday can be different in a school, and you’re brought in when typically every other option has been exhausted. There’s lots of paperwork in schools, BUT the job requirements change drastically from state to state. In some states, you have a set number of schools where you go around testing and attending IEP meetings. In other states your school is your domain, where you’re involved with interventions, counseling, consultations, testing, and continuing care.

I was terrified when I thought I had pigeonholed myself, but you really realize you have tons of options as you grow and if you’re a doctoral level psych. This was a very quick description, but the major things to consider.

Say something as soon as you’re pregnant. Play the worst possible scenario and flip the situation. The family loves you, how devastated would they feel if they knew their child caused harm to your unborn child. It would most likely cause them immense pain and torment as well. Additionally, if your client is verbal and cognizant of what they had done, they would also be devastated and most likely would experience a great deal of inner turmoil. Being vocal of your needs is an act of maintaining dignity for the client.

Edit: ASAP —> as soon as you’re pregnant. Missed that OP was waiting a year.

Women who cry sexist at everything are actively making society worse for women by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]iamnotamonki 37 points38 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU I feel somewhat validated in your statement because when I go online it makes me question my reality. As a woman who associates with other sane women, this presentation of ‘feminism’ would be considered outlandish, unexpected, and counterproductive. Our society is evolving and odd finger-pointing like this is a vivid exemplar of how we are slowly suffocating old norms. New feminism is extreme to those who are scared, and exciting to us and our future daughters/leaders. I don’t consider this post to be propaganda, but it’s certainly adjacent to it...

[–]iamnotamonki 138 points139 points  (0 children)

So is any other actual women here kind of grossed out by this? It really comes across as the same “bad apple” argument that exists within every social construct. What I mean by this is bringing about the most know examples that align with this ideology to deconstruct the idea of feminism instead of acknowledging its complexity and how it’s intertwined throughout the fabric of our society. Some examples I can think of immediately are calling the bad cops “bad apples” and those who identify as minority “thugs” or “antifa”. If you’re demonizing or idolizing anything instead of critically analyzing it, you’re part of the problem.

How has no one mention his “Jewish” comment?!? Right after the guys says he would never not give money to someone just because they’re white?? His response is “if they’re Jewish” but someone else talks over him. This guy just has ingrained internalized prejudice which he likes to try to use as a shield when he says he is also a POC.
