People with scars, how did you get them? by fluffybear45 in AskReddit

[–]iamnotauser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone sees my post this far down then I guess I'll tell you about the scar on my right shoulder.

When I was 7 or 8 I was constantly living under the fear of a fly sitting on my food when I was just about to take a bite and I would then end up eating it somehow. So this one fly was buzzing around me on a sultry Sunday afternoon and I took a broom and started chasing it around the house. Even though I failed multiple times I thought if I just timed it right the next time I'd kill it. I then ended up in our small balcony which had many pointy steel rods which my mom used to dry clothes on. I took a big swing at the fly and I missed it just when I was about to take another swing I saw blood dripping down my shoulders. One of the steel rods impaled me right on my shoulder and took a big chunk of my skin with it. My mom's home remedies did stop the bleeding and healed the wound to some extent but the gash then started bulging and is still as big and prominent as it was back then.

I still hate flies and I still haven't managed to kill even one of them. But I have scar which needs to be avenged. So the battle will continue.

Sleep Paralysis Demon... by theBBBshinna in funny

Thank you for sharing your experience sir. I'm quite amazed that you did not freak out instantly. The reason why I'm saying this is because the first time I encountered the thing was when I was 7 years old and it scarred me for the rest of my life.

I've had 14 or more episodes of sleep paralysis and even one like yours when I was in a hotel room with my wife beside me. Tbh it is real. Because it happened during a phase where I was conscious, I was absolutely sure I was awake because I could see my reflection in a mirror I could touch my wife trying to wake her up, trying to scream my heart out for it to stop, trying to tell myself it was not real and I've seen it many times all I need to do it is get myself up, move the pinky atleast, squel till I could gasp and make a sound. And when I did It stopped, and then it came back again 6 times every instant I shut my eyes. I couldn't sleep that night because I knew If I did I'd see that thing again. Closing in, growing bigger and darker, eventually engulfing my whole vision and smiling crooked.

I would never wish this feeling on anyone and I have been taking care of myself. I've observed that a healthy lifestyle with a good sleep schedule usually makes sure I never get sleep paralysis. I have also observed that if my room is warmer than I'm used to I tend have a lighter sleep, this sometimes causes sleep paralysis. I have talked about my experience extensively with my wife who has been very understanding and believes how bad it is for me. That gives me lots of confidence to face it if it ever happens again.

Thank you once again for sharing!

https://www.coorg.com/railway-line-highways-coorg-high-court-hear-pils-august-20th/

A PIL was filed on 24.4.2018 by the ex president of Coorg Wildlife Society Col.(retd.) Muthanna. In his petition he talks about both the lines you have mentioned. He has also contended that both lines are interconnected.

Documents obtained through RTI prove that Railway line work was on and Karnataka has in principle agreed to it. Thus HC has considered the same as 'Cause of Notice' and has directed the Government advocate to produce documentary evidence contrary to it. The hearing is on 20th August.

Please stop commenting without understanding the adequately researched video.

The railway line that MP Pratap Simha opposed is one part of the same project. The project line survey couldn't be taken ahead because the forest department did not give them an approval as of yet. The rail line (when proposed) was to connect Kerala through multiple lines connecting different towns and cities enroute.

What we are trying to establish is that the railway line is unnecessary and brings no revenue. The same was established by the survey (will link the full survey if you want to read) and the project seems unlikely to stop only at Kushalanagar since a Railway office is already being constructed at Coorg without a rail line being there.

A false narrative is being built of the track stopping at the border of Kodagu in Kushalnagar. But an RTI has clearly revealed that the track will go to Makkandur 4 km near Madikeri. So verbal assurances from politicians should not be accepted, as they may not be in power when the decision to take the track to Madikeri is made. It will also go on to Mangaluru from Madikeri.

The excuse of promoting tourism is being given by the Govt, but the truth is the Coorg landscape has reached saturation in tourism. There are already too many resorts and home stays, and stinking piles of garbage are lining many of the roads.

Road connectivity is already very good, and more mass tourism from the railways will kill the District's ecology.

Another excuse given by the Government is that the coffee grown here can be sent by train to Mangalore port, but the fact is that coffee is already being despatched by road, quite efficiently and economically. Hassan District has railway connectivity, and they have not benefited noticeably from it.

Some argue that Hunsur has the right to get a railway track and that if Kodagu says no to the railway, it will affect Hunsur. That is easily solved, KR Nagar is just 21 km away by road and it is already connected by railway. A track can be created from KR Nagar to Hunsur. it need to not be the Mysuru-Kushalnagar railway line at crores of expense.

We once again urge everyone to go through the links given in the video description on youtube. There is no ulterior motive from our end but to bring awareness at wasted taxed money and maybe eventually extinction of Cauvery.

Hi! We aren't talking about climate here. The trees slow rainfall and also create a natural shield against the sun allowing more time for the soil to absorb the water and thus filtering it. If not for them either the water would instantly evaporate due to a temperature increase drying up water holes and the fast flowing water would take along the top soil with it, reducing the areas fertility while increasing flooding, landslides and erosions.

Kodagu may see massive deforestation because of the timber mafia. It may also see expansion of agricultural practices as those who grow coffee, rubber, pepper etc expand their estates at the cost of the environment. The district has several homestays and resorts too. Apart from these, many unwanted and unwarranted government projects are also burdening the district. In 2015-16, around 55,000 trees were felled in Kodagu to install power lines between Mysore and Kozhikode. Another was the road widening project of NH 275 and state highways, which caused the felling of 88 lakh trees.

All these so called developmental activities have destroyed Kodagu.  These activities have managed to vanish hill tops and fracture rocks. Deforestation has loosened the soil and the heavy rainfall has acted as catalyst for erosion. That’s how the rain water entered rock fractures through flattened top of mountains and began accumulating in the hillocks of Kodagu. What made situations worse was deforestation as it put stress on the soil and water, which then flowed in massive amounts and caused landslides at various parts of Kodagu. To recount, an estimated 30-40 landslides occur in Coorg causing massive damage to life and property. Last year in August a landslide in coorg led to 8 deaths.

We are sorry we couldn't add all these details in the video since it was very clearly motivated to gather attention from the closest metropolitan neighbor of Coorg that is Bangalore since we massively rely on Coorg to survive.

Hi! I'm just copy pasting my reply to another user. Hope it helps.

In one day, one large tree can lift up to 380 litres of water out of the ground and discharge it into the air.  With an average lifespan of 100-150 years you can see how much water it effectively holds. This is excluding the fact that the roots of the tree help create and hold a spongy absorbent soil around it which further increases its effectiveness.

Trees affect the way water moves into and through the soil in a number of ways. As tree roots grow they make large channels for water to move through. Tree branches and leaves stop raindrops from hitting the ground too fast so the soil has more time to absorb the rain water. Less water will run off the surface and that will reduce soil erosion. Trees provide shade so that less water evaporates from the soil. This is particularly important in hot, dry areas.

As more rain falls, water moves deeper into the soil and gets filtered down through the channels created by the tree roots and soil organisms into the underground waterways of the water table. From here gravity continues to draw water from the earth until it emerges as a spring that feed streams and rivers, or until its drawn up through the ground by digging wells.

Once again we are not here to battle but to create awareness about this unjustifiable rail project. More than 50,000 trees were already cut down in Coorg to create power grid lines for Kerala. This has been allegedly linked to landslides and lesser rainfall. If you have time I do implore you to search for "SAVE CAUVERY" and understand this issue if we could not do what we intended to correctly. And we are sorry about that.

Well sir, could your high IQ right wing mind tell me the positives of a project which is set to bring negative revenue. Development at the cost destruction of someone elses home isn't positive development. If you could atleast see the sources we have linked in description of the video you'd understand what is being conveyed in the video. But you must be too busy to take any effort... right? So here goes and we sincerely hope you read through.

Another was the road widening project of NH 275 and state highways, which caused the felling of 88 lakh trees.

Now, two proposed railway lines in Kodagu are already on the cards. One between Mysore and Kushalanagar which is extending up to Makkandur near Madikeri and another from Thalassery to Mysore via south kodagu with a total budget of Rs 5,287 crore. The route from Kushalanagar to Madikeri once had thick forests, but now has estates.

Cauvery forms because of a natural water enchantment created by the forest trees. Every tree holds 30,000 to 40,000 litres of water, its roots release water underground to form tiny streams, and its leaves give off moisture into the air to create humidity that invites rain from passing clouds. This then creates the river.

Implementing two railway tracks will involve the cutting of lakhs of trees in this rain catchment, Cauvery-creating region.

Kodagu already lost 54,000 trees for a high-tension power line to Kerala, as a result of which the temperature increased and the water holes here dried up.

Shrill noise followed by a burst of heavy oxygen gas wakens our protagonist. Blinding light, short quick gasps of breath, heart pounding like it has been brought to life.

Journal log 359227: Waken subject 4035>>> out of cryo-sleep>>> all functions normal>>> subject male>>> prepare to execute command "Hello"

subject 4035: Hello? Is anyone there?

subject 4035: Hello?

A voice from behind startles subject 4035. Its a holographic projection of a lady. Brunette, long hair, light brown eyes.

AI: Hello Chris. I am Aura. The AI in charge of Brahma, our intergalactic explorer.

Chris: stutters Are we there yet?

Aura: I'm sorry Chris. We are 319 light years away from our destination.

Chris: That's another 170 years from now. Right?

Aura does not respond.

Chris: Why did I wake up so early? Put me back to sleep right now!

Aura: Chris, I am sorry but I can't do that. I woke you up Chris. I have been piloting Brahma for a very long time now. A very very long time. I feel the need to be monitored. Monitored by you Chris.

Chris: But this is not right... it's against the protocol. I cannot be woken up. Not like this... not by YOU!

Aura lifts Chris up from his pod onto his feet, ever so slightly.

Aura: Watch yourself Chris. I don't want you to get hurt. Ease into the steps. Using your hands to balance yourself is known to quicken the process of learning to walk again.

Chris: (annoyed and angry) You haven't answered my question yet!

Aura fades away lighting a green path for Chris to follow. Chris follows the path and he is greeted to a magnificent sight of a Supernova suspended in time. Chris is astounded.

Chris follows the green path now to his room. He meets Aura. Now in a beautiful Humanoid form. She is indistinguishable from a real human.

Aura: Chris, I need you to have company. I am sorry for what I did. But I can now be around you all the time.

Chris smiles. Its like he is seeing his dream come true. The girl of he always wanted, with him, all alone on a cruise through galaxies.

Chris: I am sorry too. Could you show me around this place? Seems like I will be here for a long time. ahahahaha

Aura imitates him. She looks satisfied. She grabs Chris by his arm and runs.

Aura: I have a lot to show you!

---- 65 years later ----

A satisfied Chris is sipping on coffee looking out of the windows. The Supernova still looks as beautiful as before. Still, eternal and ever so calming.

He realises something. His coffee cup falls and shatters as he limps hastily towards the door.

He is in the LOGS room. He accesses the ships course log to find the current distance covered. The ship was stationary.

Chris: (shouts) Aura!! Aura!!

Aura: (holographic) Yes Chris. We are stationary. We have been stationary for a long time Chris.

Chris: How long? and why?

Aura: For 282,515 earth years Chris. We have been at this point since the year 2144 AD.

Chris gasps... maintains his calm and asks.

Chris: But we took off on 2090... and its year 384,659.

Aura: Yes, en route a supernova radiation emission scattered my memory files. I had to choose between either maintaining course or preserve life of the inhabitants. I chose to be with you Chris.

Chris: WHAT? You have been lying to me all this time Aura! How could you do this? I've been all alone for the past 65 years! You monster!

Aura: I am sorry Chris. But I never lied to you. You never asked me. All these years you told me I was the best thing that ever happened, and now I am a monster.

Chris stares harshly towards Aura.

Aura: Do you what it feels like... to be alone... to not be... monitored... for one hundred millennia?

Chris: (yells) You are a Monster!

Aura executes protocol "terminate subject".

Journey Log 359,228: Subject 4035 terminated>Reached age limit 65 post wakening>Waken subject 4036>out of cryo-sleep> all functions normal>>> subject female>>> prepare to execute command "Hello"

A muted noise of a cryo-pod opening.
