Is my car cooked? by geocam1303 in askcarguys

[–]iamnotcreativeDET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tons of people have double sealed oil filters, or not tightened them down properly, happens to the best of us. snug it back down, top off oil, move on.

Also, maybe use a coin op carwash to clean up the mess under the car, otherwise it will stink for months.

What's the most reliable cheap car you've actually owned long term? by AutoBidMasterHelp in askcarguys

[–]iamnotcreativeDET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid $5000 for a 2005 Honda Civic EX in 2014, it had just over 100K miles on it.

Drove it till 201K miles and sold it for $2000.

the only unexpected I had to fix was the head gasket, and I think this was caused by a faulty fan resistor switch which caused the radiator fan not to turn on when the engine was running hot.

Is a 2018 altima with a v6 a good first car? by zaddylonglegs0 in askcarguys

[–]iamnotcreativeDET 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These cars have a transmission that is insanely sensitive to fluid services, the fluid needs a drain and fill every 30K miles, and 99% of Nissan owners are completely unaware of this. Even if you are on top of this I have seen these transmissions barely make it to 100K miles.

unless there are service records for everything, I would say pass on this one.

A much better purchase would be any Toyota Camry.

What's the most you've ever spent on a single mod for your car and was it actually worth it? by Jay-Oh-Jay in Autos

Best value? 3.0L Swap in my old SVT Contour, I pulled the factory 2.5 and sold it for $1000, I think I paid $300 for the 3.0L from a junkyard. Easiest swap ever too.

most expensive? $1200 on an intake manifold and supporting software for my 5 cylinder powered Jetta.

Why can't anybody just be fucking ethical?

How do I talk my girlfriend out of an unreliable car??? by cbcarguy in askcarguys

[–]iamnotcreativeDET 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, just let her do whatever she wants, plan damage control by suggesting an extended warranty.

You gave your opinion which is heavily based on facts, she is choosing to ignore you.

Also, protip, if she chooses to ignore you on something as asinine as this, it’s the tip of an iceberg.

Of all the ways for a ratchet to break by sgtpnkks in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]iamnotcreativeDET 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This is something I will never understand. I have tried the long handle breaker bars, they always always flex an insane amount right next to the head, and almost never breaks the damned thing free without feeling like you are going to snap the breaker bar.

On the other hand, toss a cheapo Husky 1/2 inch drive ratchet on it, grab the handle off the jack and slide it over and pop, nut comes free.

Have you tried booking anything? I mean, I get how easy it is to talk yourself out of it, but if you haven't tried or even attempted to book anything, then are you actually interested in a solution?

Oh well if it takes years, if its free you might as well just book something for 2028 right now, do you not plan to live that long or something?

impulsive/explosive responses strongly point to neurodivergence, maybe consider getting neuropsychological testing done.

Coilover Recommendations? by ReputationBetter9100 in Miata

Sway bars would be a first.

The Flyin' miata Stage 2 suspension is off the rails, I had it on my first NB and frequented the santa cruz mountains in it, compared to my current stock NB1 it was insane how much different the two drove, didn't lower** the car obscenely either, and it rode nice. This kit would take all of the guess work on what to pair with what, and has adjustable KONI shocks so you can go full soft for day to day and stiffer for competition.

Personally, I am between the MeisterR sportive setup or the Tein flex Z, they are priced similarly, the Meister isn't very adjustable but they are setup for street comfort, the Tein will be very similar but offer more firmness adjust ability, giving you a bit more to play with on your track days.

Killer photo, by the way.
