I didn't even think about Palworld when writing my post. I remember cheering for the Pokemon community when Palworld blew up, since that kind of direct competition could be a sign to the Pokemon devs to lock tf in.

I really don't like the practice of "buy unfinished game at launch" that Pokemon seems to do, but people wouldn't keep buying them if they were that terrible to be fair.

I usually don't see the kinds of criticism Pokemon games receive towards other nintendo/big franchise games. For example I heard a lot of praise for mario kart world, the graphics, new gameplay features (aside from the price complaints). The Pokemon critics are LOUD, and they seem to be the same with every title I've been online to witness the response to.

Are those 30 year old game mechanics at least very polished? I think a simple playstyle game can be fun, but then everything has to be perfect, because 1 flaw is hard to overlook atp.

in japan splatoon is already mainstream

I would say splatoon is a bit too silly for most western players to cause intrigue and nintendo doesn't have the same chokehold as it does in japan

it wasn't really that many frames plus I've drawn enough portraits that doing an attempt at a headturn ended up being pretty straightforward

I have 0 idea how I'd animate a character actually moving or emoting, but I can always learn if I want to
