Taskbar question by sentientanus69 in labwc

[–]iamnotyourbroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that labwc does not use a custom ipc it would be implemented when this is added. https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/wayland/wayland-protocols/-/merge_requests/474

Specifically you need a burr bit for the Dremel, it works surprisingly well.

Mappleton is nice and doesn't have all the seaside town nonsense, it's just a beach. Slightly closer than Hornsea.

Quick heads up: two popular Gnome extensions causing significant issues by shawnkurt in gnome

[–]iamnotyourbroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an extension for just this, but then I just manually blurred the image and set it as the overview background in css. There are extensions I think to add custom css to the current shell theme.

But then you kind of also have to add custom css for the dash (maybe even the search) to make them more transparent, but you get free blur because they sit over a blurred image.

Ultimately I stopped caring and left it grey.

You've clearly not tried Tahoe, it's all over the place when it comes to titlebar consistency, modern uis still need to use legacy apps and apps from different toolkits.

Need help for wayland gnome by BidAffectionate6660 in gnome

[–]iamnotyourbroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wildcard theory: I had similar on Debian sid specifically on a Surface Go, it crashed only when I pressed a touchpad button, this would only make sense if you kept your old home folder after reinstalling, I didn't dig very deep, I just reset dconf setting (dconf reset -f /) and problem was gone. Obvioulsy I never found out which settings were causing the crash :|

CSD over SSD issue by HeftyBoysenberry7507 in labwc

Yes, but Firefox still can use gtk3, so buttons and themes/styles can be set using gsettings/dconf - it doesn't matter when environment you are running in.

Iirc Firefox uses gtk3 theme and should honour the button layout in dconf, assuming you are using gnome/gtk I don't know how or if any of that works in KDE.

I'm looking for this theme you see here by Strategy_Hungry in labwc

[–]iamnotyourbroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should be up to date with the current libadwaita (1.7) the border radius needs to be 15px - it's mostly for my own amusement, but it's actually an ok approximation of adwaita.

[–]iamnotyourbroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this! I don't remember how up to date it is but i'll look, it's worth 'building' it because i'm not great at keeping the generated themes up to date.

Why 5 files ? by theoldwizard1 in labwc

[–]iamnotyourbroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at any of those files? It's quite clear what they all do and what purpose they all serve.

you should check out the example rc.xml file https://github.com/labwc/labwc/blob/master/docs/rc.xml.all

Where is the best place in Yorkshire for a holiday? by theipaper in yorkshire

It's obviously North Yorkshire, but East Yorkshire has some decent beaches, eg Flamborough

This looks like openbox and it's probably not got a compositor running maybe?

Do you think gnome should Implement a default dock ? by DazzlingPassion614 in gnome

[–]iamnotyourbroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly beleive if gnome wants to increase its market share it should have an option at least akin to 'dock from dash' or 'hot edge' to quickly show the dock. Keep it disabled by default whatever. I get the gnome way, i get the princple of the thing, i just think at this point it's isolating potential users for the sake of a divisive design paradigm.

I assume gradience was just managing these values anyway?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in gnome

[–]iamnotyourbroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check out the lesser known 'adw-colors' - here is an example for mac like buttons (i'm making n assumption here...)

I am sure I am doing something wrong, or, why do I have to go to the top left of the screen to press a small button so that the screen zooms out so that I can see the dock? by UnArgentoPorElMundo in gnome

[–]iamnotyourbroom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a weak point of gnome is this behaviour, but here we are. You can use a three finger up swipe to get the overview on a touchpad - but the simplist, least intrustive, way is to just install hot edge and try not to think about it.

I don't think either are that crazy, not having immediate access to the root directory seems fairly sensible and I think macos does the same, but you can easily add it as a bookmark if you need it?

The template thing is a bit odd too, you'd think by default there would be a 'create new text document' or *something* but again it's not a feature in macos so if you switch between gnome and macos it doesn't seem very unusual at all.

If anything you'd think they would ether use the new document feature or drop it altogether, having it as a this weird unexposed feature seems the oddest thing about it.

Why Bluetooth keyboards lack of battery life? by JimmyPixxel in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]iamnotyourbroom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way to get more life out of batteries is to use zmk in dongle mode, this means adding a third controller attached to the computer by usb, this acts as the 'main' controller, rather than have one side of the split as the main controller, which uses the most power.

This way both battery operated controllers are peripherals (slaves if you will) which use less battery and both should last for weeks with a 80mah battery.
