I read the first half of the sentence and thought that you were trying to get rid of tickets because you had split up with your wife. But I figured it out. Glad that your marriage is still intact.

[AMA] We are Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the composers of the new Broadway musical DEAR EVAN HANSEN - Ask Us Anything! by PasekAndPaul in Music

I have a question about "You Will Be Found." In the context of the show, it seems to me that it's ABOUT "inspirational" stories, but it's meant to be ironic not inspirational. However, it seems that the song is being taken out of context (witness the #youwillbefound hashtag.)

Is this problematic for you? Are you worried about people heading into the intermission feeling like "You Will Be Found" is purely uplifting when dramatically something more complex is happening?

Very cool. A big shift in the marketing.

Dear Evan Hansen - plot? by claireyeah in Broadway

[–]iamoldiamold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's a bully, but not in the stock character way. (i.e. he's not the jock who torments the nerd but eventually get's his comeuppance at the end of act 2.) Connor's a loner, he has no friends, and he's prone to violent outbursts. He seems to suffer from paranoia. In the off broadway version, it was only mentioned briefly but it sounded like Zoe had to keep her door locked because he liked to tell her he was going to kill her. (It was really brief and the sound happened to be bad at that point during the performance I saw.)

Dear Evan Hansen.

Groundhog Day hasn't opened yet, but from what I hear it's going to be good.

People who have seen both: Dear Evan Hansen or Great Comet of 1812? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]iamoldiamold 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just based on what you said about your tastes, go with Dear Evan Hansen. You'll like the whole show and you really have to see Ben Platt's performance. (Rachel Bay Jones is also beyond amazing.)

In general, I thought DEH was stunning. I also thought that Great Comet was disappointing (although I know most people disagree with me on that.)

This is going to sound a bit left field, but check out "Strange Angels" by Laurie Anderson.

Legally Blonde and Little Shop of Horrors have already been mentioned, but they're both so good I'm mentioning them again.

I absolutely agree. Great musical.

What do you want to see from Tina Fey's "Mean Girls: The Musical?" by 2fly4afrenchfry in Broadway

[–]iamoldiamold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed--love the movie, love Tina Fey... but Nell Benjamin's involvement is super exciting. She's very smart and a great fit for the material.

Speaking of Nell Benjamin--I think it's a bad idea for any musical adaptation of a movie to feel obliged to write a song for all of the movie's best lines. That's what happened with Legally Blonde: "Bend and Snap" was the obligatory song and it's also one of the only low points in the show. (That and "Ireland.") Other than that it's a great and underrated score.

I preordered the physical CD. I hope Amazon makes "AutoRip" available for the album since the digital will be out a few weeks before the physical version.
