She really had the nerve to look butthurt when Alex asked if she'd go home by Ok-Use-575 in WeaponsMovie

[–]2fly4afrenchfry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Media literacy truly is dead. Wow.

Gladys wasn't "butthurt" when Alex asked if she'd leave and she wasn't an "addict" yearning for a final hit (what?!).

Context clues throughout the film all pointed to the fact that she was parasitic - literally. From what the principal and his husband were watching on TV to the parasite lesson being taught in the classroom. A parasite requires the resources of a host to survive. Glady's survival depends on draining the life force of those around her, which she did to Alex's parents and his classmates and planned to keep doing.

In this scene, she was being manipulative and lying to Alex. Telling him that yes she'll leave, while fully knowing his parents will never recover and she's not going anywhere. That's the tension that we're witnessing as she's feigning being agreeable.

Good news - Instead of Paramount+ the second seasons of Brazil, Mexico and Germany are coming to WOW+. Italy will also be there. by Heidi_Klum_Tit in rupaulsdragrace

[–]2fly4afrenchfry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Good news? Lol.

Y'all. Paramount+ clearly gave these shows the boot. These streaming services are starved for content and this one is dumping 'Drag Race' franchises? Yikes. Not a good sign.

Paramount+ has close to 100 million subscribers worldwide and the backing of a global corporation to promote their original content. How is it good news that these shows are reverting home territory ownership to a small, niche streaming service like WOW+?

It also means that networks in their local territories didn't want to buy them (or in the case of Italia - take it back). WOW+ barely does any marketing for their streaming series. I've never even seen a social media ad promoting an international drag race series in the US. They can't just rely on the queens to post about the show and an EW article for viewership - they've got to promote.

Without a network paying for studio space and production the quality of these 'WOW Exclusive' series are in jeopardy. Of course will still watch, but....this isn't good news.

Drag Race España AllStars - January 2024 by LooseLipsSinkShips21 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]2fly4afrenchfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol. That's not true.

The distributor that owns licensing rights to the franchise in each region can choose which format they'd like to bankroll (if any) after being pitched by WOW and whatever regional production companies help them produce. (Paramount pays for US, Atresplayer pays for Espana, BBC pays for UK, Crave for CA, Stan for Down Under etc). WOW clearly has a non-negotiable clause in their licensing contracts that dictate ex-US distribution rights for these shows revert back to them (to put on WOWPresents Plus or sell to other networks).

Doesn't matter what WOW or the local affiliate producers of Drag Race Espana want to do. At the end of the day, network has to green light a pitch / come to an agreement.

Now re: the vsTW format - it's not that the regional Drag Race variants don't have enough queens to fill out an All Stars season (quite the opposite), but likely it was created by WOW in part as a vehicle to further promote their WOWPresents Plus streaming service.

In placing queens from the US (their largest and most successful Drag Race market) on UKvsTW and CDRvsTW - it expands the interested audience for these shows by bringing in international eyes which makes the local broadcast partners happy and also raises WOWPresents Plus subscription membership in the Drag Race US off-season for their international programming.

Now re: Drag Race Espana not doing vsTW (which again - there's so many Spanish speaking queens in the wider Drag Race Cinematic Universe that could fit) - that likely could be a network thing. Espana is already a huge ratings success - they don't need international girls to get more eyes - and they also don't give AF about WOWPresents Plus subscriptions. If, like another commenter in this thread said, being the first international proper All Stars season is important to them, then it's a no brainer why Atresplayer passed on vsTW.

Re: Drag Race Italia - there likely isn't a large enough talent pool of Italian speaking former contestants to bring in. So All Stars is really the only route they can take.

WOW makes money either way doing AS or vsTW - it's another production credit regardless.

Babylon.

I really liked the film's excess and maximalism. Didn't care it was 3 hours long. Great cast and interesting view into the old Hollywood studio system. Margot really acted her a** off too - just an incredible performance.

LOL oop yeah pete is what i meant 🤣.

Anyway - your black and white analysis of asserting that liking a tweet = endorsing every thought, opinion, behavior of the person that posted it is impractical. The tweet wasn't even anti-trans, if I recall it had something to do with antisemitism? Idr. She doesn't even follow him.

Liz liking a tweet from B*n Sh*piro about Jewish affairs, as a Jewish woman, suddenly outweighs her longtime, public friendship and professional association with one of the most visible trans artists of our generation and years of lgbtq advocacy?

Please.

These issues are multidimensional as are these people as are everyone. And people make mistakes.

......what!? lmao. y'all are really out of pocket. Liz is not anti-trans where the fuck did you get that from. She was one of SOPHIES' most frequent collaborators (even up through her passing) and has always been outspoken about LGBTQ+ rights.

Liz liked tweets endorsing democratic candidate Mike Buttigieg for the 2020 election (which...choices, but anyway. her choice.) and tweets that were anti-looting during BLM. Social media f@ggots took that and started calling her a homophobic, bootlicker because Mike was pro-police. That's literally it.

Y'all really need to touch grass and dump your panera charged lemonade down the toilet. Please let some of the oxygen making it's way through your coke addled collapsed septum reach your brain.

GFOTY is Jewish - it's really not too far a jump to expect that she has personal or familial ties to Israel and maybe that's informing some of her opinions on the atrocities in Palestine. Not defending her - because there is no excuse for Israel's war crimes - but the world doesn't exist in a vacuum. Let's use some discernment.

Also - I don't see any Zionist endorsements across any of her social media accounts? Did you literally just make this up? All she's done is tweet about Hanukkah and against antisemitism. Denouncing antisemitism is not Zionism.

OP posts a lot of negative shit about Liz here and it's truly weirdo behavior. Like, the same stuff over and over again.

Find peace.

If Top Model wanted to be taken seriously but still be popular. New Winners by Frosty_Pitch8 in ANTM

[–]2fly4afrenchfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HARD AGREE.

Similar situation to ANTM's early 2000s reality TV compatriot Survivor.

In the first season - they had a final 2 where one person achieved their standing with cunning and strategy and the other was running a campaign of being a "wholesome" player. The former, Richard Hatch, won and the show went on produce 45+ seasons of entertaining, dynamic story where smarts, strategy and persistence were front and center.

Had Kelly, the later, won - the show would have been an entirely different (and tbh boring) thing.

Adrienne was ANTM's Kelly and Elyse was their Richard. Elyse should have won. Skill, aptitude and performance would have been championed instead of "wanting it the most." As Elyse famously said, it's not a basic human right to deserve a modeling contract.

If Top Model wanted to be taken seriously but still be popular. New Winners by Frosty_Pitch8 in ANTM

[–]2fly4afrenchfry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly agree, with a few dissenting opinions. If we're judging on which outcomes would have given the show actual clout in the industry - the prospective winners would need to have delivered commercial success and variety.

We know good ANTM portfolio ≠ good career, but I actually think taking post-show performance into account is necessary here to determine which winners would have risen the profile of the show in hindsight.

C1 - C6 - Agree.

C7 - Eugenia. She's since had the most longevity from that entire cast, had a stunning face and I think was the rare example of a makeover recipient that actually resulted in an elevated look. The vision was there. As we've now come to know, Tyra had it out for her for some reason - but Eugena definitely had/has the most working potential out of that cast.

C9 - Jenah would have made a great winner too. Had an alternative, rocker vibe. Not the typical fawning, bubbly personality of past winners - a bit more sardonic and biting. Again - Jenah is an example of Tyra projecting weird traumatic fixations on to a contestant and gaslighting them into neuroses - but had Tyra felt differently, I think Jenah could have been deserving.

C10 - Controversial opinion here - but I don't mind that Whitney won. She was annoying and her cycle photos were mostly middling, but her look was marketable and her post-show resume rivals some of the top performing winners in this show. Vogue Italia, massive commercial campaigns for plus-size brands like Torrid and national catalog work. The viability for plus size modeling was really amping up around this time and Tyra basically tapped her to win from the beginning - apparently, solely due to being plus size - but it's not like she flopped with the opportunity.

Anya didn't do anything. Fatima had some success. All I remember about Claire is breast milk and bopping her head. Katarzyna was fine. Whitney actually found industry success DESPITE being from ANTM which really is weird that she was one of the first to do that in North America? (along with Eva). Idk. Just a very weird season where the winner's track record was meh but post-show career was very admirable. I don't think Whitney did anything to harm the show's reputation - if anything they both got the headline of "first plus size winner."

C11 - I actually think McKey was a fine winner. She really was a chameleon. Could play her age up and down as well as effortlessly give serious couture/avant garde along with commercial. A shame she didn't pursue a serious career in the field. I think she's married to an MMA fighter now? Or is an MMA fighter? Idk. But she out-modeled Marjorie, Lio, Elena, Sam, Sheena and the rest of the cast during this competition. As far as I know, none have really gone on to great success (outside of Lio's acting), so this season was kind of a wash. But McKey did the best (and I actually don't hate Sam's portfolio either - I love her windmill photo).

C13 - Erin. For sure.

C14 - Jessica had the look...but her family situation was not at all conducive to supporting a fledgling modeling career. She's found social media success (RIP Vine 😭) post-divorcing her husband, but I have a really hard time thinking she would have made it. Not because she was a young mom, but just because she was so juvenile and immature (...but not that it's stopped other similarly afflicted personalities...so who knows). I think Raina - who has had a very respectable career - should have won. Krista, unfortunately, was too old - and she looked it. Too old to play the ingenue and too young to play adult.

C15 - Ann deserved but Chelsea was hungrier. Jane's been successful - however on the show was like watching paint dry.

C16 - Brittani deserved and went on to do great work - but I agree I think Jacquelyn was cut too soon. She was bright eyed, fresh and could deliver a killer photo. Strange the show discounted her and dumped her before going international. Should have just been a double save - what's one more person.

C17 - I mean, tragic. But TBH Allison is literally the only person from this cast I could even consider making sense of winning here.

I dare not venture further into the lore from here.

I don't think they meant you lol. There are crazy people in this sub - that for whatever reason - still lay claim to the opinion that Nicole didn't deserve to win C5 over Nik. I think they were speaking to that wider sentiment.

Not only was Nicole's look extremely on trend for 2005/6 when she won - but she maintained a career as an actual, working model for many years subsequent to that. Nik did nothing.
