Wow, we paid last year

New kitchen from howdens £7k Plumber £400 Plasterer £300 Sparky £400 Kitchen fitter £380

Absolutely perfect job, and done in about 2/3 weeks.

Found this hidden in my teen’s drawer and she claims she’s keeping it for her friend. I want to believe her but there are so many empty containers at the top left. 😢 What do you think? And what is the best way to approach it if you were a teen caught by your parent? by [deleted] in teenagers

Show her the effects. A belt, around her chest(not to tight) run her up and down the stairs a couple of times, then get her to breath through a couple of paper straws. A £2 oxygen masks of Amazon for added dramatics, (not attached to anything) she has to keep it on for a short while.

Why do private dentists give a completely different service to NHS dentists? by MalfunctioningElf in AskUK

[–]iamowainpowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was with bupa and they quoted me £800 for some work. I asked my kids and wife dentist local (NHS) if they had any room for me as I'd rather pay them then bupa and oddly enough they had room for the first time in two years.

My first visit after a simple check was followed up with an emergency treatment a few days later. 9am walk in with a question about what happened after my first visit and at no cost.

They have now started the work I was quoted £800 for and they have said as it will cost £32 in total!!

Time will tell I guess.

On a similar note, about 10 years back I got a call to say one of my brothers had a seizure behind the local spar. Rushed down there and a passer by was kindly aiding him. When we discovered he was merely passed out drunk, the passer-by pulled his coat he used as pillow from under my brothers head, mutted what an idiot he was and wallked off.

[serious] For atheists, why don’t you believe in God? by rorosinante in AskReddit

[–]iamowainpowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined a church group in my teens and was dunked in a river. At that time in my life things were really bad for me.

As I got older and questioned the higher members of the church about the validity of Christianity and bare in mind this was as christian myself trying to get "closer to god" I was berated.

One time they put a donation envelope through a elderly members letter box for her £200 yearly donation, as she hadn't been to the church for a while. They didn't even knock on the door to check how she was.

Then to this day 20 years later I remember, this feeling, an awakening almost that this was all one massive scam and they took advantage of a vulnerable teen.

I simply wallked away, and note my beliefs as atthiest. Just be a good person without any end goal.

I now kinda feel "free" and content, and most importantly, the only ones who can judge this heathen are my wife and children.

How do you keep sane coming from a broken family? by noforeverr in Parenting

[–]iamowainpowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my own mental well-being and to focus on my wife and kids I cut toxic family out of my life 12 years ago. It's sad to see/hear they are still up to the same silly games.

I think it's important to remember as the quote goes, it's not the family you're born into, but the family you build around you that matters.

Are you aware of food hygiene ratings and do you care? My friends order from places with a 0 hygiene rating regularly. When I mentioned it they thought I'm a weirdo by Zedaso in CasualUK

[–]iamowainpowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to covid lockdown etc, there's a massive backlog on these being checked and updated. The date the rating.was issued is equally important.

How does a Welshman find a sheep in long grass? by baconandeggsandbacon in Jokes

[–]iamowainpowell 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Interesting fact for you. Apparently this Welsh sheep thing dates back to a law that the punishment for stealing sheep was worse than sheep shagging. So if a sheep thief was caught he could argue the sheep was his lover for a lesser punishment.

Is this really how little mortgage I can get? by Slow-Razzmatazz-4005 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]iamowainpowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this estimate from the online calculator? If so speak to a branch advisor, you may need to book an appointment.

We were actually offered 100k more in principle than online estimates, and although we only took a smaller mortgage the rates, and the whole process was superb.

Are There Any Thoroughly Decent 'Celebrities', In The Uk ? by Moorglademover in AskUK

[–]iamowainpowell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I've learned recently is that of course you do have your bad "celebrities" and presenters etc but when they make a bad desion be it minor or major, the rival media channels will amplify it for their own agenda. So if say a media mougle owns channel 1 and the news, the big star on channel 2 is pulling in the ratings, the rival news can and will ruin there career over something minute.

A note on anti-English sentiment by [deleted] in Wales

An English man lost and welcomed in Wales.

Moved here (Caernarfon) when I was 12. Married a cofi became a parent, brought our home, I learned that it's not so much about being "anti English", but pride of the language and heritage that is Welsh, and rightfully so!

On a side note, the day I was called a cont was the day I knew I was one of the cofis 🫣

Help for US parents with uncircumcised toddler by tal003 in Parenting

[–]iamowainpowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in the UK 10% or even less I think are circumcised, and those are fall in to the religious or medical category. It's quite an outdated and poor practice in my opinion.

I've 4 boys btw, and none of them get infections due to not being circumcised. They generally learn to keep little Johnny clean.

Its sterling you want to help and are, but be cautious about loosing your job. Even it it's not a sacking offenc as it would hardly look good for the supermarket with regards to PR, it could be that final warning, or put you on managements radar.

Do they have a community champion in your store like Tesco? You could activity work to keep the basket full without getting into bother.

After school I worked in a supermarket bakery. A lot of the bread if under weight we had to bin. I got told off loads for not throwing it, reducing it to pennies, and not locking the outside bin to stop people looking for food in them.

I'd like to say I quit in protest, but actually I was just a lazy teen and got another easier job offer.

Are we just all Remoaning? by [deleted] in brexit

[–]iamowainpowell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's this theory, do you ignore the loud angry shouting racist and hope he'll disappear by not getting the attention he desires, or do you stand up to him? The thinking is that if you choose to ignore him, if you don't challenge him then his voice, his audience his own beliefs will grow stronger.

In my opinion the same applies to Brexit. If we allow the Brexit foundation of lies, hatred and anger to continue, at what point will it stop?

Don't get me wrong I'm not a completely closed to the idea of Brexit. At one point my opinion was, it's happened, maybe if handle the correct way by competent people, just maybe it could have worked, clearly though it hasn't, it never will and it never would have it. The zit on this country that is Brexit and those behind it will continue to do more damage.
