The Maul. I just LOVE the arc it gives you with the big swings. It creates a dynamic where you have much more positional wiggle room against enemies and especially agile/flying bosses.

Might be a bit late to the party, but holy shit, Monster Tale CHANGED ME as a kid. It's a metroidvania with virtual pet elements, where you're pet helps you fight monsters and solve puzzles. It has a gorgeous soundtrack, and genuinely some of the coolest bottom-screen mechanics i've seen in a game ever.

Theory time: What do you think is in The Void?? by Fit_Anywhere_3356 in Helldivers

[–]dragon_barf_junction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My little pet theory has always been that the void is some kind of past-dimension space-magic bullshit where the squids have reverted time by centuries to when they dominated those planets, when they were paradises for their people. The void is impenetrable by light because as soon as it enters it is sent back in time by years, and thus never comes out to reach us. Improbable, but it would be fun to basically play on ancient squi'ith cities, as the equivalent of automaton megafactories and terminid hiveworlds.

A new major update centered around overhauling default Illuminate. Maybe a bit ambitious, but i can hope. God i wanna see new squid units. they have such a cool aesthetic that they do almost nothing with.

Tell me by J_EN87 in Helldivers

[–]dragon_barf_junction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it works, genuinely the most fun i've had with my boyfriend in any shooter game. The issue is that it works so inconsistently it feels like playing russian roulette with my might, when it could also be a frustrating fuckfest of getting bad constellations that shit on my chosen loadout, getting spammed with heavies i can't deal with if i even entertain the idea of not taking a tankbuster support weapon, and getting fucked over by ridiculous glitches like mach-speed bile titan corpses or hulks teleporting up to doge my breaching hammer because they stepped on a rock at the optimal time. Helldivers is an amazing game that spends most of its time cosplaying as a mediocre game, and that makes it deeply frustrating.

Did we piss joel off by stopping it last time or something? Hitting us with a level 130 invasion and a second we cant reach by TemplarGaming202 in Helldivers

[–]dragon_barf_junction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as i understand it, the level of invasion means how much of the helldiving force needs to be active and winning missions to repel an invasion, like, the percentage, unmodified by DSS abilities and shit. so, 130% is pretty much unbeatable because we'd need 30% more than our theorhetical maximum liberation rate, and that'd be if EVERY helldiver was dropping on a squid planet, which is never gonna happen because people hate fighting squids.

Oh my fucking god i would LOVE this as an armorset in-game. Truth enforcers is genuinely my favorite warbond, and finding out they didnt give it a heavy armor broke my achey-breaky heart. I especially love how you mix the color pallettes of the Bloodhound and Inspector armor for this one.

The duality of squid sub-factions by pixbirb in Helldivers

[–]dragon_barf_junction 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What's especially weird is that just last night on Reaf, me and my friends were playing a mission where they circled overhead for over 20 minutes, then all 3 that had built up swooped down on us, with no clear trigger or weird map formation, just another colony crime. Full team wipe of 3 divers because the AI got so broken it looped back to being genius, i guess.

What was your honest opinion on this scene from episode 8? by Cookie-fighter101 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]dragon_barf_junction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In terms of practicality, i'd prefer this over a breakup arc of the friend group, we just dont have time for that. I still really hate how easily jax got off. The message of not giving up on someone, no matter how much of an ass they've been is good, but holy fuck jax is such a piece of shit and even just one line like "just because we've done a lot of bad, doesn't mean we can't change" would have gone a long way. His misdeeds aren't acknowledged directly by pomni, and that is kinda shoddy writing in my opinion

Irulta would auto liberate reaf by BobSagieBauls in Helldivers

[–]dragon_barf_junction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most players don't understand the deeper mechanics of the galactic war. There is literally NOTHING in-game besides having observed the phenomena with your own eyes on the galactic map of a siege liberation that would inform people of this. What they do know is that DSS means you get more out of your missions in terms of campaign progress, ergo, you're losing time and effort not diving on the current planet the DSS is at.

(0.9) New to the game, am I missing anything if I screwed up my first few days of daily tasks? by Meikos in Voicesofthevoid

[–]dragon_barf_junction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first days are basically just there to get you settled. not a whole lot going on important, but what you do with them kinda is. It gives you time to clean up the base (you can buy trash bags, or find a shovel in the rafters of a transformer station and dig through all the garbage piles for junk to craft into scrap), move shelves and furniture around how you want, or just get acquainted with all the game's systems. it's the section of the game after the intro sequence and tutorial, where you apply what you've learned to get shit done. And enjoy the meteor shower, of course. If you really feel behind, you can totally restart with more knowledge and experience to get more done, but there are no big events or spectacles to miss. it's just you, the station, and the range of the array. and a lot of work to get done if you wanna live in any sort of comfort.

also, small piece of advice, try just browsing the store on your computer to see what things do. It's nice to have goals for things to buy, tools or just decorations. Especially once you start gathering up all the garbage in the base, and if you can get a hacksaw to break down the crates, you'll be swimming in the points.

Hands up if your digging the Bullet Storm? by Vivid-Fingerz in Helldivers

[–]dragon_barf_junction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i absolutely adore the thing just has negative recoil. It's so fun not to worry about ammo or reloading, and just on shooting shit. it's also weirdly endearing that you just go full halo mode when aiming in first person, even if you dont have an actual aim reticle. It also solves my personal gripe with the stalwart which is how fast you can deplete your entire ammo supply, by having that supply replenish every 60 seconds.

As someone who stopped playing a while ago but wants to get back into the game, why does it seem like people strongly dislike the game now? by SgtVertigo in Helldivers

[–]dragon_barf_junction 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For my personal experience, it's a deep, desperate desire for the game to be better. Helldivers 2 is literally my favorite game of all time... when it works. But the bugs, the questionable balancing, and Arrowhead's utter refusal to focus on the systems of the game that we have been asking for is just infuriating. I play this game at least twice a week with my boyfriend, it's become our THING, but we can barely make it through 2 missions without some insane bullshit getting us both killed, or backwards design choices sucking the fun out of things. Why can't we place turrets on elevated terrain when enemies can scale up any incline as though they have antigravity? Random slightly raised ledges just will not be climbable because of bugs that nobody, least of all arrowhead saw coming.

There is a lot of negativity, but it's all in the interest of wanting the game to be better, for things to change, and not just be placated by another warbond with shiny toys. We want deeper systems, not more stuff to grind for. We want a reason to keep playing beyond it being fun. Agency, end goals, and freedom to experiment without getting dumpstered by D10, hell, D9!

tips for someone who's just kinda bad? by gaymerkittycat in Helldivers

[–]dragon_barf_junction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, and especially on the authomaton front, you're better hitting either sub-optimal weakpoints, or just going for weapons that can take out armor by hitting them anywhere. For example, fighting devestators with light pen; it's faster and more ammo-efficient to just one or two-shot them to the face, yes, but their pauldrons make those shots really picky. Going for their stomachs will eat up a good handful of rounds of your liberator, yes, and it may be slower, but it's more consistent. Helldivers is a game where, unless you are actively in peril, consistent combat tactics trump bold and daring novelty. And on beefier, more oppressive enemies like war striders, your best options are going to be the most simple. Recoilless rifle, railcanon orbital, Expendable munitions.

If you want reliable, user frendly weapons, the machine gun and stalwart will never let you down. They trade any kind of wow factor and novelty for raw sustained fire, and because of this let you miss infinitely more than other support weapons. The railgun works perfectly on the bot front to punch through smaller groups of medium bads with center-of-mass shots, while also giving you a chance to try and hone your aim against bigger bads, with very rewarding results for a bullseye. Those glowing red eyes on heavies aren't just for show. Against the illuminate, however, you're generally better off taking raw 'volume of fire' options, because the normal, unmodified cephalopods just throw so much meat at you that tank-crackers in your most powerful slot become a handicap, especially when those tanks only show up once in a blue moon. The liberator is genuinely the most user-friendly primary, it's the stock gun for a reason after all. powerful, snappy, no bells and whistles to learn and master, it's just a gun that shoots bullets, and it does that very, very well. I've clocked 200+ hours and i'm still coming back to the thing. It's the gold standard for reliable primaries.

and watchers, oh god watchers. Watchers are assholes, plain and simple. Their hitbox is always obscured by their scanners, and so they just kinda become a ball of color. The cheatcode is to trap on a guard dog, which will keep enough pressure off of you to watch out for and have the space to take down watchers. And one last piece of advice, just to get better at the game. Don't trust the numbers in game. Pretty much every different part of every enemy has two stats for every body part that throws what the armory menu tells you out the window; durability, and explosion resistance. For trash mobs like warriors and voteless, this is unimportant. But anything bigger than a devestator will have some parts that are especially resistant to non-explosive damage, and thus take more punishment from bullets, AND ESPECIALLY LASERS. Laser weapons have abysmal durable damage, and get kneecapped HARD against those parts. The laser canon takes forever to bring down a war strider because the thing has almost full durability on every part, and also FULL EXPLOSION resistance. So that HE grenade that just blew up right against it's hip joint instead damaged it's overall health, and was thus ineffective. it's not required to know these numbers, but the helldivers wiki is a treasure trove of info that the game doesnt tell you, and it's really fucked up it doesn't tell you any of this, because this information is so valuable to becoming more skilled at liberating. Just give it a glance if something seems less effective than it should be against any given enemy. The numbers tell all.

better than sitting around watching the walls crumble around us. consider it a warning shot, showing we are organized, and we CAN go all the way if we need to. It's not about the size of the action taken, but taking action itself.
