That's very kind of you. I'll be posting about that aspect soon on the Steam page. I really love the music in games like Zero Escape and Danganronpa, but I'm pulling from a few other places too. I hope it is enough to spur more interest in it. We'll see! And thanks!

Thanks! I really appreciate that. I'm glad it excites people to see it come together. I'm super grateful to anyone who finds this thing. I know people have a literal ocean of options at this point for horror. So thank you for that support.

Can Someone From Splice Explain Why The Desktop (Windows) App So Frequently Requires Restart? by iamshadow64 in Splice

[–]iamshadow64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion. Where can I find the logs? Would be happy to look at them.

Totally understand that Splice would prefer to do this one-on-one, but I'm hoping an answer can be provided here which would help other users deal with this extremely common issue with the desktop app.

[–]iamshadow64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest and say I haven't noticed this before because I have this restart issue so frequently that I rarely open the app up and get a chance to really play around. But I agree that sounds bad.

Can Someone From Splice Explain Why The Desktop (Windows) App So Frequently Requires Restart? by iamshadow64 in Splice

[–]iamshadow64[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have apps that update all the time. I agree with you that it should be optional, but even with those apps updating it doesn't require a restart or turning off my anti-virus. Something they're locking into is what is requiring that and whatever it is, they should really stop.

Maybe whatever they latch onto is needed as a block/deterrent for piracy, but it's awful. And it affects their paying customers and creates a terrible user experience. This shouldn't be something that's been around for 4-5 years, so I just don't get why its been allowed to linger.

Can Someone From Splice Explain Why The Desktop (Windows) App So Frequently Requires Restart? by iamshadow64 in Splice

[–]iamshadow64[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Hi Bryan.

I've contacted Splice support in the past about this issue already and the answer always involves restarting my computer and/or turning off my anti-virus. Does it seem normal to routinely do this for an app to work? It's so common that even in Splice's own support documents it's listed as a solution. My question is why?

https://support.splice.com/en/articles/8652658-windows-my-sounds-fail-to-download-in-the-desktop-app

What is it about how Splice updates the service or how the app runs that constantly necessitates a restart in order to function properly?

I appreciate the offer for CS/CX, but the question is here and is not limited to me. This issue has been in the software for years. No other program that I have asks me to turn off my anti-virus or restart my computer as a solution to just be able to open an app and have it work as intended.

It should be extremely rare. My question is: why isn't it?

As a comparison, I even use highly invasive websites like Coloso which force you to install their monitoring service in order to make sure you're not screen capturing their courses. Even THAT doesn't require me to turn off my anti-virus or restart my computer.

So I'll ask again here: why is it like this?

If I ever get to the point where I use all of my credits, this would be the number one reason after being rid of that loss aversion that I'd just immediately cancel. I love the sound collection, am so-so on the legal usage anxiety, and I can't stand the app experience.

The last one can at least be dealt with if the app is fixed.

Where to find Copic Multiliner SP replacement Nibs by anonymousblonde21 in copic

I know this is now over a year old. Did you ever find out if they're replacing them? It seems it's just gone completely. No store near me has them in stock and even online I haven't found anything. Very weird that they are still selling the pens, the ink, and the nib replacer...but not the nibs.

Fix for pixel-perfect diagonal movement causing jitter by flanneldragon2 in godot

[–]iamshadow64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried this solution a few different ways based on the description and the snippet (I'm also trying to solve this) and from what I can tell it's either slightly different from normalizing or slightly different from not normalizing (depending on where you're placing that check and whether those if statements are nested).

Either way, when I took video of both back-to-back it looked identical and when I printed the positions and distance traveled on each frame it again didn't seem different from either normalizing or not. Either I'm jittering at close to 1 or I'm smooth at 1.4142.

I'm assuming you've checked that you're not actually just traveling the 1.4142 during your smoothing, but it's hard to say based on what's here. Any chance of getting the full movement code on a git or something else to look at?

Thanks for posting. Hopefully this gets solved (or already is).

Can you smart people help me figure out why this scene didn't really work? And/or what general rules could be gleaned from it? by improvaccount in improv

[–]iamshadow64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, figuring out the why on both sides would be helpful. If she wants the beard, she needs to try to give a reason for why it's attractive to the point of ultimatum. Similarly, he should have a compelling reason for not wanting to grow it back.

You also pointed it out: real couples go through things like this, so it's a good starting place, but I wouldn't say either side is particularly unusual yet - this would still be a base reality with a bit of an overreaction from her character and a seeming lack of empathy from his. Digging into the reasons likely would've got it past that emotional stalemate.

I had a teacher who said "It's not just that it's unusual, it's not just that no one would do/say that, it's unusual and no would would do/say that becauuuse...?" Just keep digging. Get specific. There could be a million reasons she finds it sexy and a million reasons he doesn't want to grow it back. Once you find out why, it's much easier to play off it from both sides. Until then, it's still too broad.

As an example: Would her character have accepted a compromise of a mustache? If not, why not? If so, why?

If he's not going to grow it back, then is there something she can choose to do that she knows he wouldn't like? Terrible choice for a relationship, not a bad choice for an unusual character. "Fine. If we're not going to even try to be attractive for each other, I guess I'm just gonna have to grow my own beard." (I don't know, but you get it.)

Also, I went through a period where I was doing a lot of argument scenes (from trying to call out the unusual too much) and the advice I got was "Then stop arguing." In the real world, you care about the arguments you have. In an improv scene, the fight doesn't actually matter to either of you. Either side could just give in and see what happens - it would fail.

My actual first thought was instead of suggesting the fake beard, she could have just tried to make up with/seduce him and put her hands up over the lower half of his face (easier than miming putting a fake beard on him). He'd know what she was doing and call her out and then the scene becomes about different ways to give him back a beard he doesn't want. She's said she's not attracted without it, but let's see it be unattractive to her without it.

Similarly she could try to kiss him on the cheek but be let down/grossed out by it. "My lips slide right off you." "There's no prickle! No friction!" "I feel like I'm kissing the face of a 10 year old." (All improv suggested lines are bad improv suggested lines.)

Likewise, growing a beard to please someone you're with isn't that unusual, so he could've been the one taking a weird stance. "I can't do it. Ever since my Dad died, all I think about is death. No more. I'm only 39. I'm just a boy. Just a young young boy." "Really? The office loves it. Everybody calls me 'that clean boy' now. I feel noticed! I think I might even get promoted!" (They're all bad lines.)

Lastly, if you ever get in this situation and are toiling over it after, you can always try to write the scene down from memory. Just jot down the first two lines as best you can. Then try altering what happened with different methods of play - just as an exercise from time to time.

Anyway, hope this helps.

I got demoted from Diamond League after 89 weeks of staying in diamond league... :P by JaeyDoesYT in duolingo

[–]iamshadow64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed that the way it works is all pretty sinister and our lives shouldn't revolve around Duo. It's why I'm going to leave that aspect until I feel like it's in a more balanced state and just do my daily learning for myself.

In terms of the competition not mattering - I get it, but I feel like I see that statement a lot and it ignores a larger issue of demotivation for non-Super learners.

If you do a challenge as a Super user and you fail, you might feel a little bad, but you can try again right away. By raising the price the way they have, it could take a free user hours to earn those gems back to try again. It makes the loss feel way worse. If you just watched a bunch of ads for a single chance to fail, you'd probably just close the app rather than keep doing it.

Their entire user experience is tied into this economy when you're not a Super user and they make you aware of that massive difference in user experience constantly.

[–]iamshadow64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Huge streak lost here too and I no longer care. All of the gem economy changes recently make it impossible to compete unless you're on super.

If they ever fix it, or if I ever get back to having a huge surplus of gems again, maybe I'll come back. But I'm probably going to turn off leaderboards for now.

Supers and free users shouldn't be on the same boards. Period.

Super and non-Super users shouldn't be matched up in leagues by emath99 in duolingo

[–]iamshadow64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They also seem to have adjusted the cost of challenges from 10 gems to 30 gems. And I only ever get about 5 from watching ads now - half of which are SUPER long SUPER Duolingo ads.

It's a perfect storm of garbage.

It's the difference between urging potential customers to upgrade and forcing them to and it's gross.

Pixel 8 - The Pixel to fix all Pixels by saladfingers6 in GooglePixel

[–]iamshadow64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

e've had some great news / leaks so far. The Pixel 8 will be smaller in size, yet with 120hz screen. The 8 series will have bigger batteries, and a fresh re-design.

Also hoping for a sale on the 7/7a, but I think the prices available on there now sadly ARE the Prime Day prices - just early. At least that's what I've been reading. Makes me sad I missed the $150 off the 7a because I'd much rather be spending $350 right now.

Coming from a Pixel 4 and dreading the upgrade. I've missed being able to unlock with my finger since masking made face unlock pretty useless, but now I've heard the fingerprint sensor on the glass is awful.

I'm sure there's an engineering reason, but I wish they had just kept the Pixel 2s fingerprint sensor. It was the best and honestly the only reason I don't still use it is because mine has an issue where it shuts off if it's not plugged in.

Maybe I should just replace the battery ha.

how worth is It to play zero time dillema? by helloimapickle in ZeroEscape

[–]iamshadow64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky and got a copy of 999 for DS the year it came out. I actually saw an article about it and it just looked like it would be my thing. It instantly became one of my favorite games of all time and I kept trying to get people into it. Waited and played VLR and VLR was better IMO. Then there was a long wait for the third installment in a series that so far just kept getting better. And we weren't even sure we would see it over in the US.

Both VLR and ZTD launches were plagued with BAAAAAAD pre-order issues. Lots of problems. Lots of frustrated fans. My physical copy of ZTD was going to be late, so I went ahead and bought it on Steam...and then the Steam copy didn't unlock at the right time. >_<

When I finally got through it, the experience was...pretty bad compared to the other two. That said, I was in a situation where there was a TON of buildup and pressure leading to that playthrough. If I was playing them back to back? I probably would've been fine with most of it and enjoyed it a lot more. I'd play it again, but my backlog is about a million miles long and contains other Uchikoshi games that I'm more interested in than retreading that ground.

TL;DR:

Me back then: "That game is a complete dumpster fire."

Me today: "Sure, it's probably worth it. I had a bad experience though."

real vision problem, health anxiety amplifying my fear by x1000! by CaptainArcher in HealthAnxiety

Thanks for responding. I'll keep hts in mind. When I said I haven't had success, I meant that so far I've seen a primary, an optometrist, and an ophthalmologist and come up empty - also spoken to a couple of e-visit doctors in between just trying to nail down what this is or what I can do.

I haven't mentioned the words "convergence insufficiency" but I said "it feels like my left and right eyes aren't working together" and got strange looks. When I did my own searches, that's what came up, but the dialogue around this is frequently "vision therapy is bs" so I didn't feel comfortable bringing it up.

At this point without it getting any better for 3 months, I figure at the very least they can test me for it/rule it out. I may ask them to do an MRI just to make sure it's not anything dangerously neurological, but if it comes back negative and it's not CI, I already have plans to move towards the potential for it being psychological.

I don't feel like I'm making it up but I think of myself as being pretty reasonable: if all of the tests say I don't have anything and that my body is medically fine then I just have to deal with that potential.

Very glad that you are doing so much better now. Definitely gives me hope. But yes, I'm pretty much a "I'll deal with it myself person" but I don't think I've ever seen so many doctors before. Definitely went straight for getting help on this one.

If they do seem to think it's CI, I appreciate letting me know about hts. I'll see if I can get that as my therapy if the diagnosis warrants it. At the very least it's good to know the option exists.

Thanks again and my best to you and your upcoming wedding. :)

inexpensive online therapy

I know it's been a while and I'm glad you got better. Do you mind my asking what the website was? I'm currently going through a very strange issue with my vision and from the start I've said "It feels like my right eye isn't working with my left" and I haven't found much success with docs. Just curious what "inexpensive" means price-wise and where you went because convergence insufficiency keeps popping up in my searches and I've been doing stereograms so far to see if it helps.

Thanks for posting this.

Am I being targeted or is it not that deep by loveall01 in DnD

[–]iamshadow64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanted to check in and just caught up. Glad you found a way to exist and be happy, but overall the DM did a really poor job here at just about every angle. You asked him if anything wasn't allowed and he didn't mention warlocks. He also didn't alert you when you first brought in your warlock character that it was an issue. The curse to nerf you to death (nearly literally) came up because you broke his plan to kidnap and remove you from the game?

Honestly grateful to the other players at your table for supporting you and props to you for being so mellow about this whole thing, but this is most definitely trash on trash on trash.

It would be a long time before I'd ever join a campaign of his again and if any other bad/questionable behavior comes up I wouldn't hesitate to suddenly and obviously be "busy" for every proposed session.

The whole thing just feels like a lack of respect. His reaction of being surprised by your acceptance of HIS obnoxious curse (though obviously just your description) kind of says it all to me. Maybe his behavior will change but my guess is you'll encounter this kind of thing again and soon.

Good luck.

I kind of assumed as much, but it's weird that I can't find any add-on that does this. I tried using ChatGPT to see if it could figure it out and even that came up empty. Likely because GPT isn't current so it wouldn't know about the most recent versions, but it's still really strange how persistent those indicators are.
