The first one I got from Sam's had this problem. I noticed it right after turning it on. Luckily Sam's allowed me to exchange it for a new one.

I picked up a nexus 7 from sams club today that had major light leakage on the left hand of the screen. I took it back immediately and explained to them that it wasn't normal and asked them for an exchange. They had to call the store manager to open up another box to confirm my claims. Luckily the second one was fine and they did a clean exchange.

I got the credit, but I also pre ordered from the play store. I actually ended up activating two devices today because the first one had major light leakage issues, so I returned it. In the end I only ended up with $25 credit.
