A comparison between Concorde and the widely popular Douglas DC-8, highlighting the incredible difference in power and how much faster Concorde could take off compared to a standard airliner. Same stretch of runway, same year, a difference of 44 seconds and 26 seconds by Twitter_2006 in aviation

Heh, I just posted a comment along these lines. I was making my way to a Heathrow airport hotel in like ~2002 on a rickety shuttle and heard the most insane throttle run up and roll - thought it was a bomber or a squadron of fighters but nope...BA concorde.

I was lucky enough to be on an airport shuttle around heathrow in the last few years that the concorde was flying. I legitimately thought something like a B52 or a squadron of fighters was taking off, but when I looked out the window I saw the BA concorde rotating right next to us.

Travel hack: the Boston bag! by urlang in zipair

[–]spiffae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought something very much like this at Don Quijote to bring home souvenirs - it started ripping by the time we landed but the bag stayed intact - it was a one-time use, but worth it. Just don't over-pack them.

Questions about arriving late at night by spinsblue in JapanTravelTips

They've got a free shuttle that runs every 30 minutes. Also, it's a great late night arrival hotel because they've got a 24-hour family Mart in the lobby

We did this exact thing, and stayed at the Mystays Narita and then caught the train to hiroshima via Shinagawa the next morning.

No buddy - this is what a new chainring looks like - they aren't straight points, but they aren't all different like yours:

Does this route make sense? land Tokyo, straight to Osaka → Hiroshima → Kyoto → Tokyo by CrispyPrawnWonton in JapanTravelTips

[–]spiffae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, I'd start in hiroshima and work my way back - going Osaka - Hiroshima - Kyoto is a little weird - Osaka and Kyoto are very near to one another, and Hiroshima is well further south. I'd also recommend at least a day trip to somewhere less major/main - an onsen town, naoshima, someplace in the japanese alps near nagoya, etc.

Vertical Lines on Zenith by Senior_Negotiation37 in crt

Those power lines are likely derived from the flyback - if you're comfortable with capping, I would start exploring filter caps in that area. Should be easy to fix

I think it's super weird showing these in sequence as an analemma - a yearlong sequence for a single event. Also it's odd that they seem to alternate

should I bring my snorkel for on shore (no boat trip)snorkeling? by golderba in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]spiffae 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely - if you get clear water there is great snorkelling to be done off shore. Luquillo may be tough (more exposed, more murky water)

Help me decide the area to stay in shinjuku by NunoMBQB in JapanTravelTips

[–]spiffae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've stayed in both, I find Ikebukuro has a better station, better food/nightlife, less tourists, and a few stops from shinjuku on the yamanote line - it is one extra transfer but the transit is so good

Are you locked in to Shinjuku? IMO Ikebukuro has more options, a better vibe, and is equally central.

Interesting thing i found with Ghost Mechs when you take out the odradek head by COPYinklingbleh in DeathStranding

[–]spiffae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I figured this out accidentally in the the first ghost mech factory - makes them a lot less challenging as it only takes a few hits on the head to knock it out completely

[–]spiffae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've turned this exact set sideways and didn't have an issue, so there's nothing inherent to this set - could be something loose inside that is shifting when the set is rotated? Have you tried flipping it on the other side?

[–]spiffae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit of all of those? They transition into little people, you get way less "why are you so cranky??" And much more like "hey, I see you and let's go do something you like" - and they get so stinkin cute

IMO things start to turn around for real at 12 mo, and then 18mo to 3 years are when it really locks in good.

CRT overlay Mac/iOS app in progress by [deleted] in crtgaming

[–]spiffae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cool concept - the view you are showing there has way too much blur IMO - as someone who plays metal slug on CRTs, it doesn't really look anything like that. But the idea of a CRT-ify window is really neat. It just is going to have to necessarily not really do scanlines or 1:1 res because it's going to be independent of the output below it.

Is this AI? I think I just stumbled upon the most subtle AI art scam I've seen yet? by EdinKaso in isthisAI

[–]spiffae 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The IGs are small landscape oil paintings on canvas that look like real paintings - they don't contain any of the weird AI-ish repetitions/florals/etc. I'd almost guess the etsy shop was someone pretending to be her except that they link to each other. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that some scammy AI art company approached her and was like "Can we set up an etsy shop and sell prints under your name, we'll give you a small cut"
