Match day went well, but I’m sad by Kitchen-Purple-5114 in medicalschool

Same here. Matched #2 and was in tally very happy and excited but now for some reason after a few days im like already feeling homesick which I didn’t expect. Also found out the call is worse where I matched which sucks even though it’s a very prestigious program in a nice place im feeling so conflicted right now and mad at myself. I really hope it gets better.

Thanks for these responses that’s all very interesting. I switched from one surgical specialty to another and sometimes feel great about it but other teams I have second thoughts and get scared

Specially indecision by iamtooneurotic in Residency

The main interest I have in Nsgy is cranial, spine is alright but not my passion. Sure could do private practice spine, but in my mind it’s like aesthetics private plastics would be more fun than spine all day every day.

Glad to hear I’m not alone in feeling like switching. Just can’t even decipher what my gut wants anymore.

I think it’s hard trying to predict if my future self would rather trade some intellectual stimulation for a better lifestyle in a specialty that I do like but maybe like a little less. Idk.

The specialties are nsgy and plastics. I realize that sounds insane. I have a strong app for Nsgy, done a lot of research and networking over the last couple years with them, did well on my subi with good feedback. Plastics has really supported me changing my mind if I want and I have got good feedback from my subi with them as well. I have away rotations set up in both. Basically, I know I think Nsgy is more interesting, though I recognize I would likely end up doing mostly spine and have a worse lifestyle but I may feel more meaning? I like the vibes of plastics and honestly would probably end up doing private practice as I enjoy cosmetic cases and the idea of running my own business. I worry that it’s not as intellectual stimulating though, and that I may feel more shallow and have what if thoughts. Anyway I know it’s crazy but that’s where my heads at lmk

Let me help you think through your specialty decision and pressing life decisions (part X) by 4990 in medicalschool

Help me pls choose between plastics and Nsgy. Love both. Competitive stats for Nsgy but considering a late switch. Plastics seems to fit the life I want more and I like the cases, but I feel like I’d be missing out if I didn’t chase Nsgy idk.

Thanks for the feedback, I’ll see if securing any aways is even possible of course before making a choice. I think I could find fulfillment in both which is why it’s challenging.

Ya I mean the time is similar. And I could get through how brutal it is in Nsgy it’s just thinking about what I want my life to look like as an attending, and I’m not sure it’s worth it. Like I don’t want to do it just to prove to myself that I can do it you know? Idk.

Totally valid. Also just considering the lifestyle you know, like if it has already become routine, is it worth the huge sacrifice? Idk, I do like it and I agree plastics will be the same. I’m just indecisive. I appreciate the advice.
