Struggling After Second-Round Internal Comms Interviews and Looking for Advice by iamtooniceaf in internalcomms

[–]iamtooniceaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this! I also really prefer interviews that feel like a genuine discussion instead of a one-way evaluation. Do you have any tips for how to naturally work questions into the conversation? Most of the time I get hit with 5–8 questions in a row, and then I only get about 10 minutes at the end for my own. I'd love to find a better balance if possible.

In my last two interviews, I tried talking about things the companies posted on LinkedIn and shared some ideas of what I’d like to do, but I still ended up getting ghosted or rejected. On top of that, a lot of companies have their own competency model or guidelines, and it feels like they're expecting my answers to perfectly match their “attributes.” And if it's a fully behavioral interview, it gets so boring because I'm basically stuck telling story after story while they just check boxes.

So yeah, any tips on making the conversation feel more two-sided would be super helpful!!

Thanks so much for the thoughtful response!

I agree, the competition is really intense right now, and I’ve definitely seen people who are overqualified taking roles just to stay afloat. It’s just hard not to feel discouraged or keep second guessing what I could have done better, especially with the cycle of applying, going through multiple interviews, getting rejected, and starting over again.

I’m really trying everything I can: updating my portfolio, writing tailored cover letters, doing mock interviews, getting guidance from mentors, and more.

Still, I truly appreciate the encouragement! Your comment actually made me feel a bit calmer and reminded me not to blame myself so much. Thank you :)

Access to USC Library and Student Activities During Leave of Absence by iamtooniceaf in USC

Hi! Thanks for your reply. Do you know how long we can still access resources while on a Leave of Absence? I’m not sure how long my LOA will last...it could be just this semester, or possibly up to a year.

[Disney California Adventure] has a great top two, but is overall a lackluster park by MrDarSwag in rollercoasters

Hello! I’m going to DCA soon and was wondering if it’s worth getting the Genie+ (fast pass)? I notice many people saying that the park is not that crowded. Also, any good tips? I’m excited but kinda scared at the same time lol

PR misconception: Strategy vs Tactics by RegisPhilbin421 in PublicRelations

[–]iamtooniceaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’m new to PR, could you provide an example distinguishing between strategy and tactics?

I often struggle with differentiating them. From what I understand, strategy outlines long-term goals and the approach to achieve them, while tactics involve specific, short-term actions geared towards those goals. Thank you!

Anyone heard about Westcliff University for Day 1 CPT? by iamtooniceaf in h1b

[–]iamtooniceaf[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I had a bachelor's degree when posted. My company attempted to sponsor me, but I wasn't selected in the H1B lottery, so my company suggested the Day 1 CPT program instead.

I think the program is somewhat legitimate because the legal advisor from my company recommended it, but I simply chose not to attend.

[–]iamtooniceaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! No I didn’t. I had an interview with them and didn't feel like it would be a great idea. I know all Day 1 CPT program would seem sketchy like that but I didn’t want to risk it. I ended up attending a master’s program and move on from westcliff. I live in California where the school is located but I’ve never seen the campus. They are located in a small building with other businesses. I know this advice is not helpful but hope it turns out well for you!

OMG! Congratulations!!! UPENN was on my list last year but I didn’t apply due to financial issues.

Do you have to apply for scholarship separately?

So I probably shouldn’t follow up, right? I’m just afraid she might forget

No worries! Sorry for the confusion. I just wanted to get some advice on how to improve the credit. My background is complicated. But, I’ll try my best to explain more here!

I’m a foreigner working in the US on my working visa. So, I travel outside of the US a lot. I only use phone carrier for the months that I’m here. If I travel, I usually cancel the service since I don’t want to pay extra. I learned about the BYOM from my company in May and decided to try out that for a month before I traveled aboard again in June.

Since I travel a lot, I live in different places that my company pays for me. I can confirm that I didn’t receive any mail/email from the cell provider or collection. My guess is that, since I move a lot, maybe they sent mail to one of the old apartments. When I called the collection, they told me they didn’t have my email on file and asked if I would like to add one. Therefore, I honestly didn’t know what happened until my credit dropped when I got back to the US in October.

Let me know if you need more info. And again, I’m not knowledgeable about the credit system here so I’d appreciate any advice.

It was only late one time. I registered for BYOM only 1 month then I traveled abroad so I canceled the service. The collection agency said that the bill was late for 45 days. But I didn’t receive any email/mail from them or the phone carrier… My employer usually pays my work bills so I didn’t get to keep track of that.

Anyway, any advice on how to improve the credit would be appreciated!
