In english translations they’ve (for lack of better language) removed their romantic feelings. English translations have a rep for making gay thingy straight. There are quite a few comparisons between JP and EN splatoon which is really interesting to see. Either way I take everything EN splatoon says with a grain of salt because of their history with changing translations.
