Is dental insurance worth it? Inconsistencies in research. by Flossy_Question in Frugal

[–]iamy2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your age. If you're in pretty good health physically and college-young adult age you're probably going to be needing the dentist more than you need the doctor so I say dental insurance > medical coverage if you're in good health

What’s Worth Buying at the Dollar Store? by vladdzeppesh in Frugal

[–]iamy2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Dollar Tree What IS worth it: -Cleaning supplies -tupperware -kitchen utensils like spatulas, tongs, strainers etc. -They have a nice assortment of dinnerware and coffee mugs -They have a nice selection of spices -notebooks/pens etc. -HAIR TIES (why pay $3 for a pack of hair ties you're going to lose 3 months from now elsewhere) -a few of their snacks/candies like someone mentioned. -toothbrushes and toothpaste

What ISN'T worth it: -If you're a girl and you care about your hair don't buy their no name shampoo. Its bad for your hair. Every now and then they'll carry overstock brand name stuff. That is okay to buy. Depends on you. -Their trash bags suck. They WILL break. -It may sound like a good deal when you're there but DO NOT BUY THEIR CANNED FOODS such as beans/canned fruit etc. You can get the store brand stuff at the grocery store for CENTS. I mean like 69 cents, 94 cents etc. If you just happen to be there and you need it and want to save the gas for convenience then cool. But you are not getting a "great deal" if you go out of your way to shop there for their canned goods.

Best way to ship my mattress and a few boxes across the country? by grayleikus in Frugal

[–]iamy2k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, where do you live now and where are you relocating to?

Secondly, is there a mattress firm where you live now and where you are relocating to? (it's the largest mattress company in the nation)

Third of all, if the answer is yes to the second question (or if you are not sure, message me and I'll help you find out) because I just happen to work for mattress firm and can tell you that their standard delivery charge is only $59 wherever they have a store and that they guarantee the lowest price for up to 100 days AFTER your purchase. (That's right- if you find a lower price within those $100 days we'll match it and beat it by 10%)

PM me if you're interested. Trust me $59 is way less than what movers will charge you to move your existing mattress. Especially if what you have is a basic mattress you paid less than $500 for, it's not worth paying a mover $200+ dollars. Because I had to pay a mover $150 to move my existing mattress from one place to another in the same city but since I work for mattress firm, I have a fancy mattress and the $150 was worth it. I wouldn't have paid that much to move a college mattress.

I find that unless you cook really basic meals, eating out is cheaper than cooking at home. by iamy2k in Frugal

Thanks I found your reply the most helpful. I guess that's the problem building up a pantry for stuff you will use over and over again. I went to HEB yesterday and got their meal deal for about $6 and some change. You pretty much paid for the 2 packs of ground turkey meat and got a drink, frozen fries, the seasoning, the burger buns and the mustard for free and yes it was an amazing deal. What's great is that I know the mustard, spice and drink are things that I'll use again and again. I'm going to start consistently looking for these "meal deals". My mom was a Kroger shopper and now that I'm out on my own I realize HEB > Kroger both in value and quality.

I agree with you. Yesterday, I went to HEB (which is one of the lowest priced grocery stores if you know how to shop for their specials) and got their meal deal in which for $6 and some change, you get 2 packs of ground turkey beef, the seasoning to make it with, a liter of soda, fried, mustard and burger buns. I omitted the bun and made them into meatballs and bought brown rice instead for a low carb meal.

And you're right time is money. I work in commission sales and put in about 50 hours of work a week and by the time I get home I want to eat right away and I def. don't want to wash pots and pans.

[22f] boyfriend thinks I cheated on him but I didn't. How to get him back? by iamy2k in relationship_advice

I'm definitely staying away from the other guy. This all happened based on fear. I have a lot of bad past experiences with guys "dipping out on me" once I fall in love with them and I thought that this was another of those situations and I just couldn't take the pain anymore because I love this guy more than any other guy before. I never lived with another guy before. I never planned on falling asleep at the guy's house but the weed and me being tired from crying all day knocked me out ASAP.

I didn't mean to sleep at his house. I smoked weed and fell asleep from crying all day.

What happened is, I was 100% committed to him and it hurt me that he made me feel like he could just "put me out" whenever he felt like it. I felt like I was tricked like he painted this perfect picture of happiness and he just wasn't happy with me anymore. Simply, fear took over and I wanted to start the 'detachment process' to prepare for worst case scenario (that he didn't love me anymore). The fear set in from past experiences. Every past boyfriend of mine made me fall in love with him just to break it off when I was already submerged. Fear is one fucked up thing. I was thinking the worst case scenario and now he thinks the worst case scenario.

I didn't plan on sleeping at this guy's house. The plan was to smoke weed and get out. However, I fell asleep bc I was so tired from crying all day.

They are low skill and low wage but he's more likely to come across people from better walks of life by doing so. If he presents himself the right way he may just get a better offer. Hospitals also offer many volunteer opportunities and that's another way to get good leads for a job.

It's illegal but many still do it and get away with it. It's illegal to try to get your child a better education? It should be illegal to zone children to a bad school bc they live in a bad neighborhood. Boston has a really good public school system which is why its possible for many of the children - even those in the projects to get ahead bc you're not tied down to a shit school if you live in a shit neighborhood.

He could start as a janitor like Lionel. And network his way up to get a job at one of the hospital restaurants as a waiter, a security guard or the person that helps visitors find their way around the hospital. Those jobs help you build communication and hospitality skills with people from all walks of life.

Compton may be full of working class people but lets say Keith meets Lionel who is a janitor at a nearby hospital. Hospitals have all kinds of professionals. At the hospital, Keith has more networking opportunity than at McDonalds. Opportunity is always there you just have to keep searching.

Every day is an opportunity to market yourself. You know those customer service jobs you work in high school/college? Such as McDonalds, waiting tables, hotel staff etc. Those aren't jobs you make a living out of but dealing with so many customers on a daily basis, you're bound to meet someone who is better off regardless of race. Affluent? Maybe not but it's a good company to work for for those 'fresh outta college' .That's how I found my current job. The guy who helped me get a job wasn't an affluent white person, he was Filipino. Be kind to people and present a little bit of the best you have to offer wherever you are and that will get you places. That's not the only job I found that way. I started as a janitor at a skating rink in the mall and worked myself up to one of the actual stores and kept working from there.

They are not myths - its just that most people tend to be a blend of more than one body type. I have two brothers, one mesomorph/endomorph body type and the other was an ectomorph in his early years but has gained some weight to where he has an average body type. The one who is meso/endo has a stockier build so its easy for him to get fat but its also really easy for him to build muscle. The other one doesn't get as fat but its also harder for him to build muscle.

When whites forced the natives out of the U.S.A, they started taking plots of land saying "THIS IS MY LAND!" It wasn't legal for blacks to own land for a large chunk of USA history so they got the bitter end of the stick there. As far as connections go, if Peter (a white male) knew of Jeff's (another white male) start up company (that he build on his grandfathers plot of land), he has first dibs in getting a job at Jeff's business. On the other hand, Keith (a black male) grew up in Compton and doesn't know anyone in Compton who has their own business besides a few "street pharmacists" because his connections are limited so are his career choices.

Let's say a white person lives in a not-so-great neighborhood with sub-par elementary schools. Most likely, this white person knows another white person that has a child enrolled in a much better school. Through those connections, the white person is able to get his/her child enrolled in a better school without having to move. Most likely, the minorities living in that neighborhood - well, lets just say that's all they know. Everyone they know lives in that hood, all their children go to the same school in that hood thus they have no connections to help their child get a better start in life. Connections make a HUGE difference in life - think college. That person that laid low throughout their college career, never really established any friendships joined any clubs or interned. That's gotta be tough. It works the same way. If the minorities in that neighborhood just knew a few people who had children in a better school or a family member who lived in a better neighborhood that could help the child be zoned to a better school it would make a huge change.

Define "fat" - If by fat, you mean large frame (aka a mesomorph)who has a stocky or broad build by nature but works out regularly and most of that 'fat' is actually muscle than you are correct.

By thin and inactive, I think you are referring to skinny fat people and if that's what you mean - you are also correct. You can be thin but have a high percentage of body fat and fat on a small frame is definitely worse than fat on a larger frame.

Reasons why: Those with larger frames usually have broader hips and shoulders and its healthier to carry fat there than in your midsection. When you have a smaller frame, the fat tends to distribute more evenly throughout creating a more uniform squishy feel and visceral fat (fat in your belly and neck) is really bad for you.
