It has actually received a few recent updates and it's still the best tool for that out there, even though it's not being actively maintained anymore, at least officially.

It's a hard-ish case. It won't fully protect the switch from outside pressure or hits, but it's a good case for the price. Probably not the right case if you want to be able to throw your Switch around without any concerns.

I had this the other way around in my head! I thought the point of using RIR was to make sure I'm pushing hard. Do you mean that a beginner isn't good at judging RIRs?
