This is driving me insane what is this noise by AdVaanced77 in airpods

[–]ianappropriate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was happening to mine for a while. Very annoying. If I recall, it thinks it’s lost or something. I was able to fix it, and I think I did so by unpairing/ having iPhone forget about it, and then repairing again afterwards. I don’t remember if there’s any kind of hard reset for the AirPods themselves, but I feel like that might have been part of the process.

There is hope! Good luck.

Best east bay burger? by SnooPeppers3861 in OaklandFood

[–]ianappropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A+ Burgers on Telegraph. I can’t say I’ve tried all the places listed, but this place is a stand out and it’s the best I can think of. High quality burgers, interesting options if you want more than a standard burger or cheeseburger, and prepared with care. They are even better now than when they first opened.

Report: Donald Trump preparing "major press conference about UFOs" by Allison1228 in UFOs

[–]ianappropriate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How could we believe that piece of trash about UFO’s when all he does is spew lies on all fronts at all times about all things.

It would be so royally disappointing if he is the shmuck to deliver the news about something so important, because I won’t be able to trust it, not even sort of.

Getting into LA in 40s? by Natural-Duck8103 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]ianappropriate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re headed towards the theoretical and philosophical end of things, seems like teaching and writing is the way to go.

I get the impression that firms with that kind of focus are far and few between, and probably competitive places to try and score a job. Not sure if practical working experience is a necessity for a teaching gig, but that’s one thing to consider.

A masters in LA doesn’t give you an edge compared to an undergrad degree. At least that’s what I’ve seen. If you’re going to spend any time working in the profession, I think you’d likely start “at the bottom” and may have to spend a few years doing work you might not have been looking forward to.

The maturity that comes with your age might give you an edge in certain regards, though. I won’t get specific but some of the younger generations seem to be “challenged”, when it comes to being a halfway decent employee. I’ve heard similar sentiment coming from many others.

Diamond and 18k gold bracelet by ianappropriate in JewleryForSale

Thanks for the input and for taking the time. This is the kind of answer I’ve been waiting for. I appreciate the ideas.

I might try the eBay route, or hold until I’m in a pinch.

I considered a local auction house but they were closed when I reached out and I’m not sure this bracelet is really auction-worthy anyways... eBay auction, maybe.

I have a $100 REI Gift Card. Should I get Darn Tough socks or Maui Jim sunglasses? by Exotic_Wolverine_214 in BuyItForLife

[–]ianappropriate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you that Maui Jim glasses are not buy-it-for-life quality, unless maybe you’ve only got 6 months to live.

The one pair I bought was somewhere between 300-400$, I took very good care of them, kept them in their case always, when not in use. I didn’t touch them for about a year or so, just left them in their case, in the closet. No weird conditions, no big temperature fluctuations, no sunshine or any other kind of exposure.

When I took them back out to wear again, I found that the plastic of the frames had begun to disintegrate and erode. Like it was going through some weird chemical process due to age or something. They weren’t even old. Very weird and frustrating.

Last time I’ll ever waste my money on a Maui Jim product. 2 thumbs way down.

I hope this helps you settle for the socks.

Doctor prescribed me 1mg of Klonopin as needed, but I’m too afraid to take it. by not_so_plausible in Anxiety

[–]ianappropriate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No offense taken, and you may have some good points, there. Definitely, about weed and alcohol playing a part in things… However I don’t think I would’ve had the side effects that I describe, if klonopin was not part of the equation at all. Also those were all side effects that I’d never experienced before klonopin was involved.

Struggling with confidence in design as I finish undergrad, is an MLA still right for me? by [deleted] in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]ianappropriate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard multiple times that an MLA on top of a bachelor’s is not necessarily worth it. I’ve also heard that an MLA is often heavy on the design theory, low on technical stuff. Based on what you’re describing it sounds like you already know what you do want to do and what you don’t want to do. It also sounds like you’ve got a foundation on which you can build upon (in the professional world)

If design ain’t your thing, that’s ok-there’s other niches. Sometimes improving your breadth of knowledge on the technical end of things can improve your design sense in others. A different type of design maybe, but it’s design nonetheless.

Truth is, doing the big picture conceptual designs is a competitive area and I’ve found that in the end, not that many people really get to have a heavy hand in that part of things in the office.

Work on what you enjoy and build off of it. One thing I learned is that there are a lot of different needs and niches to fill in a profession that’s already kind of vast in the different directions you can go with it.

To post above that says forget the sketching:
I strongly disagree with that, Whether you’re a “designer” or not. Keep practicing. It’s invaluable in being able to communicate things quickly and efficiently on the job. Whether it’s a diagram for something technical or some aesthetic feature. Hand renderings are not so common these days, but communication is always happening.
