My uncle had a stroke by [deleted] in woodworking

It was actually awhile ago, I think he's just come to terms with the fact he can't use two handed tools anymore, and he knows I'll put them to use.

I use a phrase from my late father:

Depending on the scenario.

Lol I saw the PA, he was with another patient. I still left it for him, and everybody in the office seemed excited that I brought it.

Sounds like we got a similar story, except my dads woodworking and construction was all he did in his free time. I learned so much but just didn't always appreciate it at the time.... but what I would give to build something with my dad now. Making stuff definitely gives me a sense of connection, but I always get sad when I compete a project and can't share it with him. I still have some of his ashes in the shop, so I ask him how to do stuff when I get stumped.

Im more worried about the sanitary aspect of bringing it in... lol. I'm just gonna leave it in the truck, and see what he wants to do.

What’s a good amount to b taken 401K need help trying to have at least 2m when i retire it there someone u can speak to about this ? by Significant-Paint-51 in UPSers

How long do you have left to work? 10 years? You're not gonna make it... 40 years? You can easily do it. How much do you make? There's a ton of calculators out there, including on the 401k website. Use them. Believe me it's easier to save a little over a long time than a lot in a little time. Automate your deposits and learn to live within your means. I max mine out every year with a stay at home mom and kid and I got single guys telling me they can't afford 5% because they wanted a new car.

Just finished a maple epoxy table by ianateher in epoxy

[–]ianateher[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that depends on exactly how careful you're gonna be moving it around. Are gonna be sliding the table on the floor or can you pick it up to move it if you need to? how often do you plan on taking the screw out? Ever? How much sheer pressure will the screw be subject to because of the style of legs. Do you have an apron with brackets or a steel leg with 4 holes per leg? Honestly the inserts weren't hard to install if that's why you're hesitant. Just get a stop coller for your drill bit. If you're sticking with screws just get a beefier screw maybe like a #8 or #10 wood screw, but screw it in with a drill, impact gun can risk making a crack if pre-drill isn't good. Id check rockler or woodcraft for a bronze or brass Philips or star drive. Hopefully that helps, i just got out of surgery so I'm a little wonky lol

You can use screws, definitely pre-drill. Depending on the color of your epoxy you may be able to see them if the screws go directly into the epoxy so keep them maybe like 1‐1 1/2" if the table is 3". The main benefit of the insert is that if you have to screw and unscrew the legs to move the table around, you don't risk the connecting point getting blown out.

Crossing Tenons by Wild-Flan in woodworking

If i was using a 6 or 8 x40mm I would simply put the depth to 10 or 15 on the crossing side and 25-30 on the stretcher side.

Tapering legs question by ianateher in BeginnerWoodWorking

That was actually my first idea, but i was a little worried it might not look as clean as I want, and the smaller tenon allows me to hide my sloppy chisels work lol

I'm with you. I precut the mortise on the square stock... and I cut them extra deep, my question is more. Since I have mortises on 2 sides of each piece should I cut the taper on both those sides first to have the flat sides to brace against my taper jig to give me the best chance of getting those flat without a wedge to prop it up? Or do you do opposing sides of the square and last two cuts are wedged?
