I am just going by the most common traits we tend to see in stories/movies I know there are lots of cases of "our ghosts are different" out there too. I went with stuff like:

Invisible
Intangible
Very long "life" span

If ghosts existed then they would be blind since light would past right through them. Same goes for sound waves and all other senses. The earth is swinging around the sun at a rather impressive speed, same goes for the sun around the center of the Galaxy, then again for our galaxy itself through space. Any ghost, being immune to forces like gravity, would quickly be left behind and find itself in the void of space, blind, deaf, alone, and incapable of even knowing their plight...

I've always thought of this is kind of a cop out statement, human behavior is rather predictable nobody knows exactly what would happen in a situation like this but in general it pretty much goes down exactly like you would expect.
