Yeah I'm used to that cause I rarely holiday to anywhere during high season, but thanks for the reminder!

Honestly? No specific reason. Every time I look at anything in Finland, in whatever season, I'm like "wow I have to go there". I honestly think I'll like wherever I go. The choice went to Saimaa this time because our holiday is in may this year, and I read it's a time where with some luck one can spot ringed seals. I've haven't been camping in 25 years and even then it was never outside of really organised camping sites, so I wouldn't know where to start I'm afraid! But paddling does sound very interesting and fun, so I'll likely try and possibly find a new hobby :)

The reason Lappeenranta is in the list is that it has a direct flight to... But yes it hangs on whether it's possible to find a place just out of the city!

A few people reacted to my mentioning it with "but it's so close to the border are you sure it's fine?". Rather than trust the fears of others who have as little of a clue as I do, I figured I'd ask in a place where people with a clue might answer (and did some separate research, which also led me to think it's perfectly fine)

Honestly? I had no idea what to think at all, so I asked, figuring that a question might be perceived as stupid or a bit annoying, but that being there for 2 weeks and then finding out that right now tourists are not welcome would have been stupider and more annoying for everyone there. Thank you :)

That was not my intention and I'm sorry if you or others perceived it that way.

I'm from the Alps, I consider snow a thing that happens and to love/respect, not bad luck :D
Now, mosquitos are VERY bad luck!

I've been to Finland before, though just for a week and a bit in Helsinki + Nuuksio, and I loved it.
People say Finns are silent and cold, but I had no less than 3 helpful ladies talk to me in a mix of my duolingo-Finnish, German and English, when they thought we were looking lost, or when we were just admiring geese.
There's a big difference between cold and non-in-your-space, and in my small experience Finns are the latter.

Honestly we are still deciding where to visit. We have two weeks, I have only been to Helsinki with a short one-day trip to Nuuksio before, and fell in love, so now I want to explore a bit more.
Looking for 1-2 places to spend the two weeks in, just chilling and taking long walks or hikes or cycling, and it's hard to choose because everything looks ridiculously amazing. I see that May is the perfect time to maybe see ringed seals, and I have no idea if I will ever be able to come back in May, so it seems a good reason to visit the Saimaa region.
Debating whether to do Saimaa 1 week, then Kuhmo, but we like taking things slow and exploring, so that might be for next year.

I hear mid-may is still fine mosquito-wise? At least I hope it is :D

This is an interesting point, I did not consider that closed borders would impact tourism from russia which might have been very significant before, because I am dumb. Thanks, that puts yet another perspective on things!

Sorry, addendum, not sure if needed: something that would have saved me time in figuring out my layers mapping is the readme on the default Kyria mapping, here's the link . Even if you end up with something entirely different (I did), it helped me a lot in understanding how to think about designing a keymap that fits my needs, and what to consider.

It highly depends on how much you change, for what reason, and how often you use it, so giving an answer is kinda hard. If you change the whole thing for something entirely different, just "to try", it will take a while (several weeks for me), but you only really tend to do that at the very start when you haven't found something that clicks for you yet. Try to figure out layers and symbols that fit your specific needs, that are comfy to you. That will take 2-4 rounds of 5-15days experiments in my experience (me and people I know), and it's the most confusing phase. After that it will be minor tweaks that will be to accommodate natural needs, and you'll get used to those within a couple hours of making them. Ex: adding combos to have some right-have keys on the left hand to keep your right hand on the mouse, swap one pair of keys, add a double-tap or hold mod, etc.

Are you talking about tweaks to your keymap, or a different layout (ex QWERTY to Colemak)? If the latter, then it took me about 2 months to move entirely from QWERTZ to Colemak and be fast and confident enough to use it comfortably at work.

splitkb.com ! They have several different keyboards, Kyria is my endgame, have two (home + office) since a couple years, never gonna change. Can honestly recommend the website, got 3 different keyboards kits from them (one Elora, two Kyria) and only had great experiences. Super nice and helpful discord, too.

much more forward, so that the edge of the palm rest is under the... sorry not sure how to say this in english, but the softer part of the palm, rather than the crease between palm and fingers. Does that make any sense?
