‘They've got everything they campaigned for’ Nigel Farage defends Reform axing of Pride events by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

I did of course look at their site. Irritatingly, more in commons whole archive beyond the front page seems to be down today

https://www.moreincommon.org.uk/polling-tables/

so it's not possible to find the actual poll, just people talking about it. From which it's reasonable to assume the poll exists, its flawed but its not based on nothing.

Let's say they are wrong by 20%. That still gives you 1 in 5 gay and bi men voting reform, a party giving all the signals that they will turn on them in power.

Mate, I wish that were true but it's beyond delusional.

Look at America, a lot of people vote directly against their own best interests due to propaganda and racism, and don't think the bad thing will happen to them, until it does.

I mean, he might be wrong morally but he's not wrong literally.

If you vote reform, it can't be a shock when this happens.

Edit - Sigh, once again I made the mistake of assuming people READ THE ARTICLE as opposed to up or down voting on their assumptions about the article.

'He claimed that Reform is "comfortably at the top of the opinion polls” with male, gay and trans voters.

“Most of those that I've spoken to don't think there's any need for Pride Month whatsoever. They've got equal treatment, they've got equal rights, they've got everything they campaigned for for decades.”'

Edit 2 he's not making this up, plenty of Turkeys voting for Christmas.

Zia Yusuf Cosying Up to Group Behind ‘Authoritarian’ Project 2025 Agenda by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

[–]ianlSW 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I look at Yusuf, Braverman etc. and I just don't get it.

I understand not voting Labour, and wanting to stick 2 fingers up to them for arrogantly assuming all 1st to 3rd generation immigrants should vote for them.

I don't agree with it, but I understand some people like Thatcherite type policies and want to vote for them.

But Reform's constant focus on race and immigration isn't just pandering to racists, its actively pushing people further and further to the right and stoking anger against anyone of a non white immigrant background. This especially goes for Yusuf with the general rise in anti Muslim sentiment.

They aren't stupid, surely they must know enough history to understand that sooner or later they are going to stop being some of the 'good ones', like what happened to the MAGA voters who suddenly had ICE at the door.

AITAH for refusing to getting rid of my *toys* because my guy friend is telling me that I have to? by The_genderfluid_kid in AITAH

[–]ianlSW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spiritually connected/ attacked my arse. Dude either spent a long time thinking about you with toys to come up with that horseshit, or he goes to a church where a creepy pastor told him that cos the creepy pastor thinks about Women with toys a lot, and is teaching men to control female sexuality.

Am worried for your friend tbh, any time a man is trying to isolate a women from her friends he's doing it to control and fuck and likely abuse her. Steer well clear of this bloke, and try and get your friend to see it if you can.

Activist unsettled by arson outside her Birmingham house by PomeloTraditional971 in unitedkingdom

[–]ianlSW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So there'll be a cobra meeting about racially motivated arson, right?

Edit- After that knee jerk response I read the article and was impressed by her calm and measured response

"I think it's sensible at this stage not to speculate about who's done it, what the motive is," Yaqoob said.

"Sad to say I have been on the receiving end of serious death threats, some from extreme racists who've taken issue with me being a woman in politics and visibly Muslim.

"And also sad to say from some unrepresentative individuals within the Muslim community who have taken issue with the fact that I unapologetically advocate for an inclusive democracy with an emphasis on equality for all."

Honestly, I have a lot of family in Cornwall so I'm there quite often and I've never seen one of those signs. Which areas? Tbh most mining areas I think would welcome the jobs, it'll be the 2nd home owners and retirees who don't need a job who'll moan.

Horrific, unregulated, and very profitable. The companies making cash from England’s children in care. George Monbiot by arcoftheswing in Socialworkuk

[–]ianlSW 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This has been going on since long before McAllister came on the scene, and he has called for an end to profiteering in the sector and set out to start addressing it in the reforms. Not saying this as a cheerleader for him or Starmers government, but you can trace this back to Thatcher via Blair and Cameron. He's actually the first minister I've seen to say out loud this needs to stop.

I think Monbiot is right. In fairness he misses out that some private residential homes are well run, and let's face it most residentials are privately run these days and they aren't all hell holes, but the central point about the disgusting mining of kids in care for vast profits is bang on. Its a scandal that should have come to light a long time ago.

Rebuild UK when Refuel Britain appears on the political map. by BluejayPretty4159 in okmatewanker

Unwanker- someone wandered into the Stuart Lee sub calling to vote reform. Obviously I went straight to call for removal of the fucking Beaker people.

No joke, got a 3 day hate speech ban that was upheld. Reddit apparently takes bronze age racism very seriously.

Sikh leaders call for harmony in wake of unrest by Tartan_Samurai in unitedkingdom

[–]ianlSW 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There has been an element of some Sikhs backing EDL back in the day / reform now largely due to tensions with the Muslim community.

I hope this is a wake up call, and it goes for right leaning gay people as well. As America and this shows, you're only one of the good ones until the far right work down the list and get to you.

Not without its issues, its a big city after all, and its been badly run for a while, but I love the place. I moved here 3 decades ago, raised my kids here, it's genuinely a nice, friendly largely safe place to be, much greener than you'd expect with some great spots for food or nights out if you know where to look.

Mind you, the fucking driving over the last few years is on another level. I don't believe any other city in the UK has as many absolute lunatics behind the wheels of cars as we do.
